Ryan: "A truly sophisticated place to dine in NYC. The atmosphere is charming, cozy and quiet with amazing food!"

Established in 1920, The Waverly Inn was reopened in 2006 by Vanity Fair Editor-in-Chief Graydon Carter along with Sean MacPherson and Eric Goode (of the Maritime and Bowery Hotels) and Emil Varda. Tucked into the ground floors of two adjoining townhouses, the dining room's red booths, fireplaces and low amber lighting provide an attractive and cozy hangout for the city's best and brightest....

The Waverly Inn Restaurant Review

One of the few places where the food and atmosphere actually live up to the hype, this West Village inn enchants even the most crowd-shy diner---but unfortunately the welcome mat will be pulled from underneath your feet at the host stand, unless you’re a VIP. It’s been reported ad nauseum: only celebs and the elite of the magazine world shall dine inside. Yes, that was Jack Nicholson...

Maybe the "celebrity buzz has slowed", but Graydon Carter's "clubby" West Villager still offers "high-end" spins on American "home-cooking" favorites in "cozy", fireplace-enhanced confines (complete with Edward Sorel murals); a "more democratic reservations system" makes it more "neighborly" than ever.

The reopened Waverly Inn is more glamorous than ever, with a nice mainstream menu of traditional American fare. Once a bastion of impossible-to-get reservations, the Graydon Carter backed Inn has inexplicably gone democratic, offering online reservations even to people of more austere tax brackets. The food largely remains country inn—the sort of Inn that requires a "Ye Olde" on the signage—but...

Former Edna St. Vincent Millay hang has completed its makeover under the watchful eye of Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter. Kind of a media version of the Harvard Club, with solid enough tavern classics like pork chops and chicken pot pies. High-wattage crowd in low-wattage light, with cozy, clubby feel preserving charm of the original. Expect self-congratulatory vibes off the inn crowd inside.

Vanity fare: Graydon Carter gives a cozy West Village institution a celeb-packed second life.

Getting Inn
""Are there just two of you?"" the wafer-thin host asks. Speechless, I nod. Just like the many hopefuls who follow, I don't know a friend who knows a friend who has Graydon...

Unfortunately, Trump is correct is being proudly noted on the menu that the Waverly Inn is the worst place in NYC.
Went with friends, got burgers, cheese plate, salad, tartare and the signature chicken pot pie. Thank goodness we didn't go for the truffle Mac...

Good food, but check your bill

Food was good, service was ok. While I found the wine prices outrageous (glass $12-24 and bottles from $100-2,000) what I really didn't appreciate is the extra glass added to the bill that I only noticed after I got home. Yes I know, I should...

Outstanding 'hidden' gem - worth a visit - some great cocktails

Top notch food, excellent service and great wine selection. But start with a cocktail!
I will visit again - Waverly Inn is a hidden gem that - ironically - I'd like to remain hidden!

Yes to Brunch

Awesome brunch sitting out on the front patio. Really relaxed and low key spot to laze around on a Sunday afternoon, watching people go by. The farro bowl with poached eggs and kale was super satisfying. Thanks for a great time!

Poor service

Went for dinner with very high expectations - I had the mahi mahi and my daughter had the risotto - both tasted fantastic. Unfortunately the service was well below par for what I would expect at any restaurant let alone one with the prices this...

This cozy townhouse restaurant has been a West Village staple since around 1920 and somewhere along the way it became an institution. Today, New Yorkers dine at Waverly Inn for a taste of yesterday, when nobody even knew what organic or nouvelle meant. On the menu, one finds decent renditions of American classics like roast turkey, meatloaf and other hearty fare. The working fireplace, garden...

Since 1927 the company has been providing Eating Places.

The Waverly Inn provides a fine spot to warm yourself on a chilly night with grandmother style food and freely flowing ale. Housed in a landmark 1844 brownstone, the restaurant dates back to the 1920`s, and the owners have worked to maintain its "ragtime" flavor. To this end there`s atmospheric dim lighting, spacious booths, and three working fireplaces. The cooking is inn fare: chicken pot...

The Extras: Gwenyth Paltrow, Jimmy Fallon, Harvey Weinstein and Gina Gershon are just a few of the big names regularly spotted in the grand middle dining room, and Carter himself makes near-nightly appearances.

What to Drink: The French- and Italian-heavy wine list features few bottles under $30, but by-the-glass options include a flowery Vernnacia ($11) and a mellow Syrah ($12).

When to Go: Unless you're a pal of Graydon's, nabbing a reservation is tough, as the phone number is unlisted. However, showing up at 6pm during the week is your best.
