Editorial reviews from the web (1)

The return of this venerable restaurant confirms Chelsea’s status as Little Spain, with at least eight Spanish places. Francisco Bermeo, who started as a busboy in the well-tiled original, which closed several years ago, has revived it nearby with a menu of tapas and classics. — Florence Fabricant

This is a long overdue review. I have been going to El CID for several years now. I have taken friends from out of town, my parents, my brother and my sister. I have never gone on a weekend or...

Disappointing dinner experience

I really wanted to like this place, but the paella dishes we had (both the vegetarian one and the seafood one) were just not well prepared. The seafood was all overcooked and paltry, and the rice overcooked. Similarly with the vegetarian one. That's all we had, but both disappointing. Not a very good value, for they were not inexpensive.

a good spot to dine right across the street from the Joyce Theatre. nice selection of tapas which are fun to share, good entrees and wines by the glass. curious, however, that the two times I have been there there have been either bill or credit card issues so be alert when you pay.

My date and I came here for the tango lessons on Tuesday evenings and had a great time. My only complaint is that, post-tango once we got seated, the service was rather slow - we had to flag down the waiter after probably 15-20 minutes of no contact, and even after that he barely came by to check on us. But otherwise, good food and wine, and the tango lesson was really fun!

Food at this restaurant was good but no better than dozens of other places in the city. Service was spotty at best. The hot mussel appetizer is mostly hot red pepper. Almost inedible. The cold dish is quite good. Mains were overcooked. The banana cream pie was great. Coffee was supposed to be decaf but probably not. All in all an ok but not great experience in Lincoln Center area.
