Watch out for extra charges on your credit card! We've been taking our dog to this place for a little over a year and have never been impressed with the customer service but after what just happened we will never take our dog there again.
We took her to get groomed and were quoted a price of $60-$65. This was after being told that the price is adjusted based on the history of charges making it sound like you pay more each time you go there...
My husband picked up the dog and signed for the grooming at $60. A few hours later we got a voicemail saying that they were adding $20 to the total because there was a mistake.
When I called back to investigate the additional charge, I spoke with a woman who threw attitude and told me that we would have to pay it unless the manager refunded it. There was no explanation given for the additional charge. The representative dismissed my concerns and argued with me. She told me to call back the next day to speak to the manager. The manager wasn't there the next day. I spoke to another woman who argued with me and was possibly more rude and ridiculous and not helpful in the least. I was told I would get a call from the owner first thing on Monday morning (which is apparently 5:30pm!). After trying to explain the situation to the owner, I was rebuffed and got even more attitude! When I finally said we would not be using their services anymore, she hung up on me!
In this economy there are many more business' that are worth my time and money. This is unacceptable and the fact that the owner was so rude and reluctant to issue the refund is horrendous.
This is not about $20. It's about customer service and bad business. Overpriced. Smells bad. Flies in the lobby. Spend your money elsewhere.
I took my dog there this past weekend for one day of daycare. The lobby was clean. There was only 1 person working but there were only about 6-8 dogs there and they all seemed to be having an o.k. time. The first thing I noticed is that it smelled just fine- which made me feel pretty good right off the bat. Staff was friendly. Basically just a big back room- nothing fancy- but I only had my Yorkie there for about 8 hrs. She came home absolutely exhausted which I took as a good sign since she doesnt normally "play" much. She prefers humans over dogs. She's not great with bigger dogs so I was concerned about her not being separated from the larger dogs- but the worker assured me all the dogs have been given a socialization interview-- as was my dog-- and that everything would be fine. And it was. I would take her there again for a day or two.
We had made reservations at Dogs And The City to board our two dogs for five days.
Upon arriving to drop them off during normal business hours, we were treated as though we were breaking and entering. It was incredibly strange. At first we thought the staff was on drugs. Or they were being robbed and were being told to "act normal." My wife turned to me and whispered "I have a bad feeling about this." I did too. It was one of the most surreal experiences I have ever experienced.
To begin with-- the staff had no knowledge we had even made reservations and did not even attempt to look!
Then they even began to question if we could drop our dogs off, even after we had brought in the needed paperwork and performed the required interview a week earlier. (Our other dog had stayed there numerous times).
After the staff called the manager on the phone I explained I was very concerned about how I was being treated. I reminded the manager that she had reconfirmed with me 4 hours earlier. I wanted to know where the disconnect was, this miscommunication. She could not offer me an answer. This is what concerned me the most.
If her staff could not even honor a simple reservation (we were also told we were the only 2 dogs staying overnight-- so perhaps these dogs should have been expected...), how can one expect them to properly take care of our 2 dogs, one that requires medication at dinner time.
I expressed this to her, and she was unsympathetic. She also said if I was not comfortable with her staff, I should not leave my dogs with them.
And she is absolutely right!
As a dog owner it is my responsibility to provide my animals the best environment possible. Based on the actions of the staff, Dogs And The City is not the best environment at all. My gut told me to walk out the door and that is what I did.
My wife and I had to cancel our travel plans and we have now missed my grandfather's 100th birthday party.
Please use at your own risk. There are plenty of other kennels in San Diego that can provide the same service, often for cheaper, with a dedicated and responsive staff. If your gut tells you this is a questionable environment to leave your dog, please listen to it. It is your responsibility to make sure your animals are safe and well cared for.
My Boxer has so much energy and since I work & live downtown- I can't always give him the execise he needs. I drop him at Dogs and the City Daycare & he comes home exhausted from playing so much. I watch him on the webcams from work--which is really cool! Thanks to everyone at Dogs and the City.
