Awaken Cafe is a neighborhood cafe in Oakland that serves traditional cafe snacks and beverages of coffee and tea, but also has a happy hour with wine and beer. The staff in this place are very nice and welcoming. I feel bad for them that part of their job involves policing the size of electronic devices people are using. Their electronics policy is bad for two reasons.First, the important part of their "WIFI-FREE" sign is found in small print that says no laptops or tablets. The …

So we are new to the area and have been looking for places that we can find that are funky and interesting and make good tea/coffwe. So far this is one. I like that their Chai wasn't made with two fist fulls of sugar. I enjoyed the chocolate pound cake that was at the counter. I found myself getting lost in the list of events on the wall. Also it was a nice and clean space. Will be back.
