Help us make it rightTo get to Thelewala, you'll have to climb up a small flight of stairs that leads to this tiny eatery. Serving up a delicious selection of street food from Kolkata, the menu is limited, but each item is freshly prepared and tasty. Open till the wee hours of the morning, Thelewala is especially popular with the late night crowd after an evening out. The Calcutta Nizami rolls are the true star on...
Night owls and NYU students looking for a "quick", "cheap" Indian fix swoop into this Village "hole-in-the-wall" where the "delicious" fare has just the "right amount of spice"; it "gets crowded" fast though, so consider takeout and "order ahead."
Set on a street near NYU that is flanked by hard-to-take-seriously quick bite ethnic eateries, this Indian street food spot is an exception. If you want to try Indian street food ... This place is a must try. I love their rolls better than kati rolls and do think it's a gem for every New Yorker to experience. I have returned here numerous times through out my three years in New York and whenever o have bought friends here they have loved the rolls.
The ghugni was almost as good as the one back home (Bangladesh). The pani puri was also very decent. The staff were very nice. Most definitely would make the commute all the way down more often...
Literally stumbled into this place by chance. Has a strong Indian feeling in terms of ambience. Bollywood songs in the background made it even more memorable. Wide variety of choices for both vegetarians as well as meat lovers, something that cant be said about a lot of places. The Chicken Phal Roll is the spiciest option in the menu. (The guy who took my order actually double confirmed if I...
