I was looking to get another tattoo, so I went to this place based on the good reputation it seemed to have online, lots of good reviews on facebook, etc. I walked in and just wanted to talk to an artist about an idea I had for a tattoo. Nobody was in sight, I waited for about 5 minutes and somebody from the back noticed me and came to help. This was Eric. I then asked him about a tattoo idea I had and how we could go about making it happen. I was very careful to ask about the process for how we could come up with the image. I wasn’t going to just put anything on my arm, I wanted to see it ahead of time and make sure it was something I liked. We even discussed what would happen if I wasn’t satisfied with any of his designs, and he agreed that I could put the deposit towards a different tattoo If he couldn’t come up with something I would put on my arm. At this meeting I showed him a specific tattoo that inspired me and we discussed ways he could make it different. The tattoo was to be of two mythical trees from a famous fantasy story. He draws a real brief image as we discuss some ideas. I put down a $50 deposit and he told me he would send me an email within a few days with a few images. I went in on September 15th. On September 20th, I emailed him, repeating a few points from our conversation and sending him the original tattoo idea I liked, along with a couple other images that showed one possible style that I really liked- a geometric sort of style. I sent this reminder email because he was already responding later than I expected- which is fine, people get busy- but I wanted to make sure he didn’t forget our conversation.
On September 25th he finally responds with an image. The image is very crude, and I will post it here. It takes several elements from the original picture that I showed him, but looks super rushed. The geometric patterns were clearly generated in about 1 minute and the rest of it looks like what he drew at our first meeting, which took him about 25 seconds-because all it was were 2 tree trunks and triangles.
So I figured, ok this looks like c@!p, but it’s just a first attempt at some rough ideas. No sense in putting tons of effort into making it perfect if I don’t like some of the rough ideas. So that’s fine. On September 27th I send him a scanned copy of the picture with some detailed notes telling him what I like and don’t like.
He replies saying “Ok I don’t copy no ones work” which isn’t really what I was saying at all. If I wanted the tattoo in my first picture, I would just go to that artist. He says that he has to complete it “to show you the colors and I can add some leaves.” So I figure we’ll still probably get this worked out if we change little things at a time. He doesn’t reply.
On October 11th I send him an email asking him how things were coming along.
No reply.
On October 17th I send him a text asking him how things were coming along.
He replies, “It’s going good I’m going to send you your design later on tonight”
“just got slammed with appointments I apologize for silence but thank you for your patience”
I reply “it’s all good.” At this point I’m getting worried because it is clear this guy is unreliable. It’s been a month and all I’ve been shown was a badly drawn image that probably took about 1 minute to generate.
He doesn’t send a picture that night, but the next night. And it was confusing as hell. He sent me the same exact image as before!! He tells me that he tried other designs, but he thinks this way looks better. WTF! I ask him if I can see some of the other versions he drew. I want to see A) If there are any elements of those I like better and B) Whether he actually did any work at all.
He says that he doesn’t have the other drawings because, “I erase as I work.” Which doesn’t make any sense. He draws on a digital tablet. Saving takes a click. And he still has the original image, so that doesn’t really make any sense at all. I tell him this doesn’t make sense, I told him I didn’t like the first image, so what makes him think I’m going to get it as a tattoo?!
I then call him out on his b@!%!**t and he goes on a rant about how he made this tattoo exactly like I said I wanted and for me to just go somewhere else and basically that I’m the a@!%!*e. He further lied saying that the $50 was for him to draw a design, not for my deposit which he effectively stole. Then he said he will let every other tattoo artist in the city know about me as some sort of threat I guess? Like I was the one being difficult. I’m a reasonably self-aware person, I don’t think I was being a difficult customer by asking for an image that I actually liked.
It’s not like I kept nitpicking him with changes over and over and made him do a bunch copies. He DID ONE that couldn’t possibly have taken any significant amount of time.
So anyways Idk. A lot of their work lots pretty good, but I guess you’d have to get that far. I wouldn’t come to Eric with any ideas, because he’ll just blow you off and get lazy to take your money apparently.
Went to go get my nose pierced and Kaitlyn was awesome. I was very nervous and she did an awesome job. Very patient and made sure I was happy! I highly recommend!
I LOVE this place! All the artists here are amazing and really want to make you feel comfortable and happy with whatever you get done. I'll definitely be back to get my sleeve filled in! Prices...
