Help us make it rightInspired by the street food Jean-Georges Vongerichten enjoyed while traveling in Asia, Spice Market is a timeless paean to Asian sensuality served in a casual and sexy atmosphere. Authentically uplifted versions of flavorful street foods are served family-style, with food arriving continuously throughout the meal for all to share.
Bangkok meets Manhattan at Spice Market, the hot Meatpacking District restaurant helmed by celebrity restaurateurs Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Gray Kunz. The sumptuous interior, encompassing a whopping 12,000 square feet, is nonetheless surprisingly romantic, with wooden arches, cozy nooks hung with paper-thin curtains, detailed wooden chairs, and antique South Asian artefacts. Not too long...
Jean-George's Spice Market features cuisine inspired from the street food of South Eastern Asia. The exotic design and atmosphere transport guests to a far away location and make for a special dining experience.

Now in its 10th year, Jean-Georges Vongerichten's ever-"trendy" Southeast Asian offers "inventive" haute street food and "different" cocktails in an "exotic" Meatpacking "fantasy palace" setting complete with "special" private rooms downstairs; "deafening noise" and "steep prices" to the contrary, most report an "overall great time" here.
Spice Market Restaurant Review: The soothing and lavish interior of this bi-level Meatpacking space---with its elaborate wood-carved pagodas, ornate tapestries, silk lanterns and monk-outfitted waitstaff---will make chaotic New York City seem continents away. The genius of the spot is how this high style combines with something as seemingly low-concept as Southeast Asian street food,...
Lavish, extra-sceney spot of Taj Mahal-like proportions. Harem décor and smallish portions of so-called Asian street food are hit or miss. Chicken samosas, wings with messy chile sauce, and mussels steamed in lemongrass are all good bets. Otherwise, Jean-Georges may be spreading himself a little thin. Ideal for those who enjoy the quality and service one gets when dining with several hundred...
Spice Market is Jean-Georges Vongerichten's wildly successful ode to the street food of Southeast Asia. The interior of the restaurant is as exotic as the cuisine: with a collection of artifacts imported from Rajastan, South India, Burma and Malaysia creating an interior of Eastern exotica including antique wall carvings, screens and pagodas. Designer Jacques Garcia’s custom-made colonial style...
With teak pagodas, low golden lighting and a dramatic staircase carved into the center of the room leading down to the equally stylish bar, Jean-Georges Vongerichten has redefined exotic dining....
The food is amazing; the bar quite good, ambiance is exotic and it is just a shame that the service is uneven and sometime rude.
Recommended by a friend for our anniversary dinner and it was awesome. Customer service on point from the moment you are seated...Food choices including dessert were interesting but delicious.. Will definitely be going back with friends...
It was way too loud...the hostess was very cavalier and off putting...the waiter seemed quite bored....food was good!
Our food was too salty to be flavorful. Spring rolls especially which were only average to begin with. Not nearly as good as a year ago.
This is our favorite Asian Fusion spot in NYC. Best value and unbelievable flavors and ambiance!

Business Dinner, Asian, Thai: Located in the far west corner of the Village, an area known as the Meatpacking District, this key player in Chef Jean-George Vongerichten's restaurant empire takes the hawker (street) fare of Southeast Asia and gives it a contemporary, some say sexy, interpretation. Indeed, dishes like Vongerichten's pork vindaloo, mussels steamed in lemongrass, and curried duck...

Spice Market, run by the notoriously creative Jean-Georges Vongerichten, is a sly take on Asian cuisine. Imagine ducking into a street-vendor's stall in Bangkok to order up a quick, exotically spicy meal; now re-imagine that meal as a mix of pan-Asian influences with classic French training, and you're approaching what you might order here. The drink menu is as creative as the food, and taken...
Smaller parties should sit at the bar, which offers entertaining views directly into the kitchen. Parties of six or more can reserve one of the exotic, subterranean alcoves.
The cocktail list includes a refreshing passion fruit and champagne cocktail called a "pattaya." Several wines by the glass are offered, including a crisp Clairette ($8) that pairs nicely with much of the menu.
