Editorial reviews from the web (3)

This LES "heartburn city" brings on "old-fashioned" Jewish staples "covered in schmaltz" and vodka in ice blocks in a "grungy basement" setting where a keyboardist spouts "nonstop shtick"; like being in a "perpetual bar mitzvah", the clamorous "cavorting" could cause "cardiac arrest" – but it's a "great way to go."

Old school Jewish steakhouse serving up signature overflowing, garlicky slab of beef accompanied by potato pancakes and vodka frozen into individual blocks of ice. Extroverted staff livens up no-budget basement. Atmospheric bonus of live shows that make you wonder if this isn't really the Poconos, if 1947 never ended, and if you have a heart-shaped hot-tub just waiting for you and your new...

The last of the great Jewish party restaurants on the Lower East Side.

Every night's a bar mitzvah at this Lower East Side landmark, where the combination of frozen vodka bottles, immense garlicky skirt steaks, the strains of a Casio keyboard playing ""New York New...

It had been over forty (Yes, 40) years since I had my one Sammy’s Romanian Steakhouse experience in the basement restaurant on the Lower East Side. This noisy, Jewish eatery with way-too-loud entertainment by Dani Luv is a crazy memorable experience — like being at a bar mitzvah. One you pay $4.95 a person for on Friday, Saturday,  Sunday and holidays. Seltzer lovers will love squirting their...

The Extras: The chopped liver is a whole show, with the waiter mixing all the ingredients tableside.

What to Drink: Vodka will come to your table frozen in ice. Be careful drinking it though: Sammy's charges dearly for it.

Know Before You Go: The steaks come in three sizes: huge, gargantuan and ridiculous. Order accordingly.
