Originally opened in 2008 as both a Peruvian and Cantonese restaurant, owner and culinary director Darren Wan decided to reconceptualize the already successful restaurant in 2010 into the chic, upscale and exclusively Cantonese format that it is today.
Melding traditional Chinese cuisine with a hip and contemporary venue, RED EGG caters to those looking for excellence in their cuisine as well...
"Not nearly as hectic" as the usual dim sum specialists, this "contemporary" Little Italy Chinese dispenses "high-quality" tidbits that are "made to order" and served by a "competent" crew with "no carts" in sight; despite the "lounge"-like setting, prices remain egg-ceptably "low."

If you’ve had a hankering for both Chinese and Peruvian cuisines at the same time (and, really, who hasn’t?), then your prayers have been answered: enter Red Egg, a chic eatery on the cusp of where Chinatown and the Lower East Side meet serving up a long menu of Chinese classics, dim sum, and elevated Peruvian dishes. The lettuce wrap with quasi-spicy minced chicken, green peppers and celery is...
Hatches a modern take on a traditional teahouse. High-design interior pits mid-century modern chairs against flashy lights, mirrored walls. (Slick digs all the better for hosting latest incarnation of Madame Wong’s.) No carts, but plenty of dim sum served day and night. Chicken feet with black bean sauce, soup dumplings, radish cake with duck. Extensive regular menu covers Sichuan and...
Operating under the assumption that “if you remodel it, they will come,” in 2010 Red Egg was transformed from a Chinese and Peruvian restaurant into a Chinese restaurant and posh lounge....
The waitstaff are rude, pushy, and generally detract from an otherwise wonderful restaurant.
Good food. Friendly staff
Food was good although only found out they were awaiting their liquor license once we got there so no wine/cocktails etc. disappointing as we were hoping for a cocktail or two to celebrate Chinese New Year.
This is my regular dim sum spot. The food is fantastic, it's quick, there's table service and you can book.
Wanted to love this place but it was just okay. The Dim Sum starters were the best part of the meal. Would probably go back for Dim Sum.
Chinese, Asian, Best Value, Chinatown's Best Restaurants: Known for its high-end dim sum and cocktail pairings, Red Egg's menu is an amalgamation of Cantonese comfort food - think fried wontons and pork dumplings - and more exotic dishes like cold sesame jelly fish with smoked pork knuckles. While the restaurant serves main course meals, the star of its offerings is the dim sum. Served daily...

New York City's past, present, and future has always been a culmination of the people and their diverse cultures. Red Egg is a true example of this. Red Egg is, from design to menu, a reflection of this trinity along with its reinvention to bring it into the future. Its décor is a modern take of the traditional Chinese tea houses and reveals the diverse intersection of Chinatown, Nolita and...
Located in the thriving Chinatown neighborhood, this contemporary bistro has an inviting atmosphere and exceptional service. The menu is a dynamic blend of dim sum selections and traditional Chinese dishes. In addition, Peruvian appetizers are also served.
Red Egg offers classic Chinese dishes and dim sum, courtesy of chef Darren Wan. In a recent move to refocus its menu on its strongest culinary suit—Chinese cuisine—Red Egg has dropped its Peruvian offerings and refined its menu. Wan explains that the menu slim-down was done to “pinpoint down to what we believe are our best and most classic dishes” and to make the choices more manageable for...
