A "Theater District standard" since 1983, this "enjoyable" Restaurant Row Italian is touted for "delicious" dishes dispatched by a time-sensitive "staff of would-be actors"; while the interior is rather "plain" and reservations can be a "problem", the chance of "seeing Liza Minnelli" keeps the crowds coming.
A surprisingly sophisticated -- and actuall good -- Italian on Restaurant Row, this is everything Becco should be but isn't. A great pre-theater choice, but it isn't super cheap. No all-you-can-eat pastas here.
This two-level Restaurant Row trattoria attracts the Broadway theater crowd, including actors both famous and obscure. Start with the rosemary-olive oil pizza bread or potato and ricotta gnocchi in tomato and basil sauce with buffalo milk mozzarella. Move on to main courses like grilled salmon with a lemon zest risotto; cast-iron roasted, grass-fed steak with mashed potatoes and spinach; or...
Italian restaurant in Times Square is a favorite among native New Yorkers and tourists alike.
Professional and courteous service. Excellent, creative menu, cozy ambiance. Wine list a little on the high side. We had a wonderful meal.
Orso is, in my opinion, the best restaurant for either pre-theater or after-theater dining. It is our go-to place. reservations are often hard to get. But if you can, the food is wonderful!
We enjoyed our meal at Ordo very much. We'd be happy to return for another meal!

Food is just the right balance of creative but not too fussy. Combination of flavors is at times unexpected and always works. You can taste the food without being overwhelmed with a heavy hand of spices...
Outstanding!! Can't wait to return and share with others!!!!

Reservations are hard to come by at this airy theater district favorite. (Call at 11:00 a.m. exactly one week ahead of the day you plan to visit. The day will be booked within the half hour.) The menu offers salads of asparagus, taleggio and tomatoes, and of scallops, calamari and mussels, as well as first course pastas like farfalle with goat cheese, grilled radicchio, pistachios and cream,...
The most important part of a literary agent's day is lunch, and this is the place many of them go to. It is also a favorite of New York's theater set, making it a place to see minor celebrities. Close to Broadway, Orso is a cheerful, well-lit spot with an open kitchen and a boisterous crowd, and it is especially buzzing at lunch. The Italian menu ranges from pizza to such dishes as Carpaccio...

Although reservations are highly recommended, it can be somewhat difficult to obtain a pre-theatre reservation, 8 p.m. or lunch is a safer bet.
