Restaurant
Sophisticated yet unpretentious homestyle Mexican cooking served in a rustic setting located in the ♥ of the West Village
Mexican restaurants in the West Village are not uncommon, but Ofrenda offers elevated dishes, which have included crab meat served in a shell with chile poblano sauce and celery root purée. Garlicky shrimp had a nice charge of pepper, offset by the side of esquites, grilled corn slathered with queso blanco and chile de árbol, or chayotes relleno. A main course of salmon was surprisingly plain...
The Scene
"Hostia" means host in Spanish, and though Ostia dropped the "h" for its name (for ease of pronunciation), there's no shortage of hospitality on display. The owner floats around the small, triangular space, tending to… Read More

"High-end", "fabuloso" Mexican fare – and "even better margaritas" – delivered by a "terrific"...
Mexican restaurants in the West Village are not uncommon, but Ofrenda offers elevated dishes from chef Luis Arce Mota's home in Mazatlan with twists from his training at Le Cordon Bleu. We recommend the crab meat served in a shell with…
Egg roll dough for the tortillas. Pigs’ feet chimichangas. Rib-eye a la parilla (grilled). If you’re looking for chips and salsa followed by tacos with shredded chicken and a side of refried beans,...
I went to brunch with five of my friends and we had a wonderful time! The service was very friendly and accommodating, and the food was amazing. This is now one of my favorite West Village brunch spots!
Really good Mexican food, but it was LOUD. It was 6:45 nd happy hour lasted until 7:00. There was a large table of 20-somethng drunk finance guys that were super obnoxious. As I'm sure they are not there every night, I'd say go and get the good food and good margaritas.
We love Ofrenda - especially their daily happy hour cocktails and food selections!
Interesting menu with many vegetarian choices. Lots of Margarita options. Very enthusiastic and helpful staff. Easy on the wallet as well.
In "refinement" the essence of what makes Mexican food great often seems to get lost. I'd rather eat street tacos in Mexico than "nice" Mexican food in many New York restaurants.

Chef-owner Luis Arce Mota brings years of skill, experience and ambition to the kitchen of Ofrenda where it is his goal to showcase his Mexican roots, offering home-style Mexican cooking, and demonstrating the complexity and subtlety of Mexican cuisine. Ofrenda is Spanish for 'offering', and what Chef Mota offers guests at Ofrenda is a new interpretation of authentic Mexican flavors and dishes,...

Where to Sit: The seats by the front windows get a little chilly in winter, so opt for the back tables.
Outdoor Seating: When the weather warms up, sidewalk seating is available.
What to Drink: Sangria is tasty, if a little too sweet. A $36 dollar bottle of Borsao, a medium-bodied Spanish red, better brings out the food's complex flavors.
The kitchen closes around midnight, but the bar stays open until 1am. Plan accordingly.
Long, lovely windows open out onto 7th Avenue. Even better, grab a table on the sidewalk.
