Editorial reviews from the web (3)

To "quench taco cravings", hit these crosstown Mexican "favorites" where the "fair-priced", "authentic tastes" are best washed down with a "terrific margarita" or two; both the service and the "tight" quarters are "undistinguished", but in warm weather, the West Villager's patio is the "spot to be."

West Village location of the popular Mexican joint, serving tacos, tortas, and even huevos with a margarita or a glass of wine at brunch. Dinner time is for more noble entrees such as marinated steaks, red snapper, and sea food items.

Patricio Sandoval's ultra-fresh ceviches and tacos go from East Village to West and the bold flavors follow.

Located at the tip of one of the Village's sharp corners, the Grove capitalizes on its large sidewalk dining area, with the inside space reserved for an open kitchen and a smattering of hand-carved...

Great Food

The food here is outstanding. Creative and delicious tacos. Please note that this location is very different than those in Chicago. In Chicago Mercadito is an upscale, trendy, flashy restaurant. In NYC (the original location), the restaurant is just a small neighborhood place. The food is just as good and the ambience is fine, just don't expect a trendy hotspot.

The food was good but we were rushed to eat and move on. There was no tequila in the margarita and the wine was bad. Tables are on top of each other (four were seated at a table for two) and the noise level was quite high. Service was fair. the waiter forgot two drinks. This is a restaurant for kids who do not mind high prices for a moderate amount of food.

Expertly blending traditional Mexico with creative interpretations of local and seasonal ingredients is the inspiration behind Mercadito restaurants. Spanish for “little market”, Mercadito is modeled after the markets chef Patricio Sandoval shopped at while growing up in his native Mexico. His muse is the cuisine of the southern region but when mixed with his own style he creates authentic...

The Mercadito specializes in Mexican cuisine. But the chef, Patricio Sandoval chooses to indulge a little more in flavors and spices with the food at this new branch. Delicacies like Guacamole are especially worth a try! The restaurant remains open till really late at night, so you don't have to wind-up when you're just beginning to enjoy yourself. This charming restaurant will definitely have...
