"Impressive", "over-the-top" decor centered around a "giant Buddha" ice sculpture sets the stage for "delectable" modern Japanese "fine dining" at these TriBeCa–Midtown East "stunners", where "meticulous" service takes the edge off "steep" tabs; they're perfect for a "power meal", "date" or any time "someone else is paying."

Japanese artwork graces the walls of this uber-luxe Japanese lounge, where a small bar shares space with a dancefloor from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. So if you find yourself in the mood for a bit of pre-dinner dancing, Megu is your spot! Oh, and did we mention that the waitresses wear swimsuits?

THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED LOCATIONS Megu Restaurant Review

Megu (which means blessing in Japanese) is set on two levels and 13,000-square-feet of shadowy space. The $6 million restaurant, designed by Yasumichi Morita, is dynamic and sexy, so, as you might imagine, it is also very loud, with 120 speakers set around. The menu is enormous, going from category to category, and owner Koji Imai insists he brings in only the very finest ingredients from all...

Koji Imai's dramatic, bi-level zen-modern fortress. Celebs fend off autographs in cushy booths, mesmerized by the life-size ice Buddha melting into a pool of rose petals. Somewhat confusing menu yields huge flavors in teeny-tiny portions. Try the toro steak in white truffle oil or the Kobe beef cooked in sake—we know we're supposed to rise above our earthly desires, but we can't help ourselves....

To you, it's just a space carved out from the old Megu bar. To them, it's a chance to step forward in the highfalutin restaurant-bar-turned-lounge game. Skimpily dressed waitresses mill about while DJs spin Japanese club sounds (many of which are, incidentally, American). Open late, and you can grab a few bites from the restaurant, too.

When I say alot more I mean on every front except decor. One is definitely struck upon entering Megu. The stairs down open up to an impeccably designed space - truly top notch from the decor to the booth design to the layout. We got...

Top of the line in decor, fresh and original sushi dishes, rare types of fish, a very eccentric menu, high end all around with amazing drink and sake menu as well. I had my 30th Birthday Party here and it was extremely well received and absolutely fabulous.

Excellent food. Not very busy, but expensive

Great food. Average service and setting. There are much better sushi paces in town that give you are better dining experience for this price. Surprisingly empty for a mid town restaurant.

overpriced

The food is average, the service also average. Left feeling like what is all the hype about?
Above our table the aircon was dripping and there was mold on the ceiling. I do not expect this from a high end establishment.
If you want good...

Tips about this business (2)

What to Drink

The wine list includes $40-$60 reislings, Gruner Veltliners and gewurtztraminers, which pair well with the food. Don't overlook the exhaustive sake and sochu list.

Where to Sit

The 75-seat upstairs bar, wallpapered with bolts of antique kimono fabrics is more serene. Three large lounge tables overlook the scene below, and there's a private room for parties.
