Editorial reviews from the web (4)

This "cozy" Boerum Hill Italian "keeps things interesting" with a menu of "seasonal" midpriced small plates that are "crafted with care"; the accommodations feature a food bar where you can "watch the chef" work, as well as a garden in back.

The Manhattan expansion didn't quite pan out, so it's back to Boerum Hill, and hopefully the refocus will do everyone good. Chef Adam Shepard lets the market inspire his fresh Ital/Medi small plates. Homemade ricotta and house-cured salumi get you started. Follow up with rich porcini-rubbed steak or crispy duck confit. Intimate neighborhood spot stays warm with sconces and crimson banquettes....

Chef Adam Shepard, formerly of restaurants Bond St, Union Pacific, and the French Laundry, has an inspired selection of Japanese-style snacks, appetizers, and entrées such as yuzu chicken and kelp-cured black cod, maitake mushroom hand rolls and ramen noodles with Berkshire pork. Interior was created by the team that did Jewel Bako.

Seasonal Italian small plates and an all-welcoming ambience send Smith Street diners over the moon.

In addition to a job well done, Louie noted some previously installed electrical work which clearly would not meet current code requirements. He offered to list the problem areas and left it up to me to either choose their company to perform the work, , or to choose another firm. Very professional approach.

What to Drink: The well-chosen wine list accommodates all budgets, with a more-than-drinkable Primitivo ($26) that pairs well with the meatier fare.

Know Before You Go: Specify the order in which you'd like to receive your dishes. Otherwise, they'll pile up on your table as they come out of the kitchen.

The Extras: Cookies come from around the corner at One Girl Cookies.

Dine at the Bar: The bar seating provides a glimpse into the kitchen, as well as a perfect spot to chat with colorful neighborhood regulars.
