"Rustic but sophisticated", this Murray Hill Southern Italian purveys a trulli "special" Puglian menu paired with "outstanding" wines via its adjoining enoteca; an "expansive" garden and "roaring" fireplace are seasonal draws, though "helpful" service and "costly" tabs are part of the package year-round.

Where to Enjoy the Feast of the Seven Fishes in NYC

[Lupa by Daniel Krieger]
Here's a guide to eight great restaurants that are serving that traditional Italian-American Christmas Eve dinner, the Feast of the Seven Fishes. Many have taken the literal route, and are serving seven course meals of octopus, salt cod, clams, and more, but there are also few more condensed meals on the list. For those whose Christmas Eve plans are already locked up,...

Cassoulet Cookoff, Shame on Sandy, and More

1) Cassoulet Cookoff
When: Sunday, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Jimmy's No. 43
What: Tomorrow afternoon, Jimmy's No. 43 is hosting the fifth annual Cassoulet Cookoff. A dozen professional and amateur chefs, including Josh Stokes of Gramercy Tavern and Patti Jackson of I trulli, will compete in a battle of bean-and-meat stews to see whose is the best. The good news is you don't have to cook to...

i Trulli Restaurant Review

The scent of traditional Pugliese cooking is enough to lure diners into this attractive and cozy country-style restaurant---the centerpiece of which is a traditional dome-shaped grill. Sample the wines of Southern Italy to go with, say, an unusual though tempting appetizer of seared day boat sea scallops over an Apulian black-chickpea salad or a grilled octopus with lemon confit. Indulge in...

Straight outta Apulia, the boot's high heel. Warm, attractive décor revolves around central glass-enclosed fireplace. In summertime dine in the airy giardino. Cavatelli with rabe and almonds, rabbit's leg with pancetta, and cannellini beans. Sardinian dumplings, hand-rolled by the owner's Mama Mia, with ground sausage and saffron ragu. Trulli a labor of love. Cheaper, but no less fine, wine and...

To say disappointing is understatement of the year. Went here for Valentine's Day and it is was epically horrible. Literally didn't see food for an hour and fifteen minutes and that was just the antipasti. Our apps came out an hour and forty five minutes into our meal. I literally had my coat on because we were about to walk out (after what I counted was five table around us walking our). We...

Ok food but overpriced. The location is great and the set up of the place is nice but is pricy for what is delivered in the form of food and service.

2 1/2 hour wait for starters after ordering. This place used to be great, but something very wrong has happened to it. Save your time, patience and money and go somewhere else. The owners obviously have themselves so cross this one off your list.

I Trulli was totally overwhelmed on Valentine's Day and could not handle the amount of people they booked. The service was hurried and got more chaotic as the night went on. The prix fixe menu had a few bright spots but for the most part everything was overcooked. Not a good experience especially for the $78/pp price tag..

Our first time here was Valentine's Day. I understand the service was not typical because the place was super busy, but we waited at least 1/2 hour between being seated and being served our first course, and about 45 minutes between the first course and the second. All in all, we spent 2 1/2 hours in the place, which is excessive even for a special occasion.

I Trulli restaurant specializes in the cuisine of the Puglia region of Italy (i.e. the Southeast or "bootheel" of the country). Some menu favorites include grilled stuffed squid, duck-filled pasta with artichokes, and medallions of wild boar with lemon and oregano sauce, in addition to numerous traditional pasta dishes. The wine list is interesting and fairly affordable. This charming...

Opened by restaurateur Nicola Marzovilla in 1994, I Trulli Enoteca e Ristorante is one of New York City’s landmarks of fine Italian dining. Its wine list features more than 450 labels (all Italian with an emphasis on Southern Italian wines). Its menu celebrates the cuisine of the Marzovilla family’s homeland, the region of Puglia (which forms the heel of Italy’s boot). Nearly all of the pastas...

What to Drink: If you have time to kill, stop next door at the adjacent wine bar and sample a few of the 500 wines on this list.

The Extras: I Trulli boasts a beautiful garden that's open in the summer and a central glassed-in fireplace that burns in the winter.

Know Before You Go: Though Apulia is technically part of Southern Italy, don't expect the robust tastes of Sicilian or Neapolitan food. This is a more austere and subtle flavor palate.

Prix Fixe Menus: A six-course menu focusing on Pugliese fare runs $48 a person ($65 with wine pairings).
