Not only a shopping mall, the Horton Plaza offers a casual setting for meetups, quick stop eats or coffee. Horton had seen a better, literally brighter heyday in the past, however, it's worth a stop here at the pinkish and tannish plaza for a nice break downtown (Especially if in town for Comic Con).

It is walking distance (5-10 min walk) from the downtown train station at Kettner and Broadway...

This will be my things to do tip on Westfield Mall Horton's Plaza, Which is just beside the Famed Plaza and is the major shopping and dining area in Downtown and Gaslamp Quarter, it is less touristy than the Seaport District.

Horton Plaza was one of the first downtown revitalizing projects. The architectural design was, at first, a bit controversial--it is painted in forty-three different colors! Can you imagine that?

However, the festive feel of this unique shopping mall--more than a shopping mall really-- soon became well liked and the biggest problem anyone had, was remembering the "Fruit" level they had parked...

The Horton Plaza covers 15 blocks and is nested at the heart of downtown San Diego's Gaslamp district. It includes the Horton Plaza shopping center which is a colorful open-air mall with 5 stories. Even though it has 150 stores you won't find all the stores or brand names that are usually present in other malls. The mall is also confusing with its stairs, catwalks and bridges. Difficult to visit.

What is a plaza? It's an open area or square in a town/city (esp. in Spanish-speaking countries = in San Diego as well hehe) or a group of buildings including stores (= shops) designed as a single development within a town/city.

This massive complex, bordered by First and Fourth Avenues, Broadway and G Streets, is home to over 130 shops and cafes, anchored by Nordstrom and Macy's. Other shops include Ann Taylor, Gap, See's Candies, BCBG Max Azria, GameStop, Louis Vuitton, Guess? and J Jill. There's also a 14-screen cinema and numerous restaurants and fast food joints.
