Hampton Chutney Company features South Indian dosas (crispy crepe made from rice) with a variety of delicious fresh fillings. Each dosa is served with your choice of fresh all natural chutneys. The three restaurants serve a variety of exotic beverages including homemade chai, mango lassi, orange-blossom lemonade and cardammom coffee.
Gary & Isabel MacGurn started making their fresh chutneys in 1995, selling them first to local Hamptons gourmet markets and then in New York City to Fairway, Zabars, Balducci's and others. In 1997, the couple opened their first dosa shop in Amagansett. The dosas (large, crispy, sourdough crepes) were an instant success. Lines formed for lunch at this Hamptons hot spot. Both "light and filling", the "delicious" dosas with "nonconventional" fillings add up to "exotic", "affordable" eating at these "casual" Indian standbys in SoHo and on the Upper West Side; it's a "cool concept", but the "basic" counter-service setups have many turning to them mostly for takeout.
Bombay, Amagansett, Soho—a logical enough progression! Calming chanting soundtrack for frazzled shopping nerves. Contemplate armed struggle for a seat. Moms taking a break from using daughters to max out daddy's plastic and local workers in a rush. Dosas and uttapas, a.k.a. crepes and pancakes. Chutney chicken, smoked turkey, spicy Indian potato fillings. Fresh, tasty, and Atkins-friendly...

In Short

I love dosas but they’re not easy to find in south Florida. So a trip to NYC was an opportunity and there was Hampton Chutney just where we were heading for the day. Delicious served with a chutney and traditional and non traditional stuffings. AND...
i sniffed out this gem on a cold, blustery, snowy manhattan day, it was worth the trek through the snow. the masala dosa was perfection - cooked just right, nice and crispy, with wholesome spiced potato filling. if you are a dosa afficianado, be warned...
Delicious, cute, authentic, cheap. Love this cute, peaceful, delicious vegetarian place in the midst of fancy SoHo. I come here after talking Kundalini yoga class nearby to enjoy a healthy,...
I would trade chutney for a dose of hospitality. I just left without being able to sit down and eat. I arrived at 7:40 for a restaurant that closed at 9pm and was told I couldn't sit down and...
Ok, not a chic spot but I don’t care it was delicious and I only had to wait 5 mins. Food is very fresh with great balance of flavor. Healthy comfort food!
