Editorial reviews from the web (3)

“Thank God he is back” sigh fans of François Payard and his Village patisserie, which replaces the old, beloved Upper East Side institution with more compact downtown digs and those familiar, almost-“too-good-to-be-true” treats like macarons, tarts and “to-die-for” croissants that have devotees declaring “I’m back in Paris!”; outlets scattered all over town lure out-of-towners ready to “refuel...

Rapturous fans of pâtissier extraordinaire François Payard and his "classic but casual" French bakeries and patisseries (the sleek Upper Eastsider is the flagship) insist the "fabulous" treats will "transport you from your troubles" – too-good-to-be-true" treats like macarons, tarts and "to-die-for" croissants that have devotees declaring "I'm back in Paris!"; "beautiful packaging and...

Third-generation pastry chef François Payard fills a void on the southern end of Greenwich Village with this ultra-high end bakery. Covers the basics well—madeleines, macaroons, the best baguettes you've ever had. Adds fancy sandwiches and salads, which you can munch on in the tidy 20-seat dining room. A few leaves of arugula justifies a half-dozen chocolate truffles, right?

Sweet Tooth

This is THE place to stop in this area for a sweet break - the pastries here are among the best in New York. Payard has other locations in NYC as well.

Exquisite baked deserts in the Village

While in The Village, we popped in for a treat at Francosi Payard Bakery. The deserts were exquisite? Gorgeous to look at, luscious to eat and they packaged up well for the long trip home. The bakery has breakfast and sandwiches at a reasonable (for NYC) prices. We plan to return.

had breakfast here a few times, good coffee, and great bread, also had that colorful dessert which was very sweet, should have tried one before getting 4 of them, but it was all good.

Quiet spot for breakfast

Happened to pop in for a breakfast bite before heading to Amtrak for our train home. What a great find! It is in a somewhat quiet part of Houston St; had I not found it online beforehand, we probably wouldn't have just wandered by. However, we are glad we did. The pastries were tasty and fresh and the service was...

More than just great baked goods

Average Rating

Great classic French desserts, individual servings or while, and macaroons, all really first rate. Also very good breakfast baked goods and coffee, sandwiches, as well as excellent salads. Comfortable seating and friendly service. Prices reasonable for the quality, especially the lunch box combo of half sandwich, generous servings of salad and fruit, and macaroon.
