Information about this business (3)

From the establishment of the first Fort Smith on December 25, 1817, to the final days of Judge Isaac C. Parker's jurisdiction over Indian Territory in 1896, Fort Smith National Historic Site preserves almost 80 years of history. Explore life on the edge of Indian Territory through the stories of soldiers, the Trail of Tears, dangerous outlaws, and the brave lawmen who pursued them.

Having lived nearby I visit often, I'm now 23 miles south and still come back every year to take more photos, I have a Golden Age pass so I and my party get in free. I have taken many photos over the years and the only changes made were to the commissary, things were mover around, but I like the...

There is a lot of history at this site with a lot of knowledgable staff. There isn't much to see if you don't know what you are looking at but there is a beautiful park along the river, the hanging gallows from Judge Parker's days are on site and lots of neat facts placed around too!

Great Site With Missing Pieces

When I saw that I was going to be near this place, I thought that it would be a great place to see. Although the structures were still standing, the fort walls were not. The structures are great to visit, and you get a great view of the Arkansas River, it would be nice if there were walls to make...

Great Experience

Visited the old Courthouse/prison late in the afternoon. Wish we had gone earlier. There is a lot to do and see for those interested in history. It was Veteran's day, so we got in for free, but there is a donation box and we left $20 just because we like to help maintain these places. We toured the courthouse/prison, gallows,...

The grounds are well kept and both inside and outside and plenty to view. Inside there's a small gift...
