Dr. Mel is a hero, one of the finest practitioners and human beings on the planet. My son has been his patient for 12 years, since age 8, and we have referred several others to him. He is a godsend to the mother of every IBD patient who knows him. Despite teaching, running a department, founding and running a summer IBD camp, and a crushing patient load, he is always available when we need him.

Dr. Heyman was my daughter's gastroenterologist for 10 years until he transferred her care to the liver transplant team at UCSF in 1992. Now 30 years of age and 20 years after her transplant, her successful outcome fully justifies the frequent late night phone calls made by both us as parents and Dr. Heyman as a 110% dedicated provider.
