Forget fortune cookies – this Chinatown ice cream "institution" scooping a "great mix" of "traditional" and "exotic, Asian-inspired" flavors – all of them "delicious" – is a "must-go" for "post–dim sum" sweetness; there's "usually a line", but most say it's "worth the wait" – and the calories.

Chinatown Ice Cream Factory Restaurant Review

A cartoonish Asian lion beckons from the sign of this ice cream shop that is one of the best endings to a meal in Chinatown. Among its 40 flavors, you'll find the familiar vanilla and chocolate, but, for an unusual experience, try one of the many Asian flavors like ginger, mango, almond cookie, green tea, lychee or red bean. The pink color and sweetness of the red bean makes it especially...

Arrivederci, Ciao Bella. Auf Wiedersehen, Häagen-Dazs! We're cracked out on the Factory now. They've got generous scoops of fun/scary flavors like avocado, strawberry colada, and black sesame. Fat-phobes flip for light-sitting longan, lychee, and blueberry sorbet. Friendly counter kids will let you scarf samples until your teeth rot out. They'll also whomp up milk shakes and egg creams. Wander...

When in Chinatown, after sitting down at a dim sum banquet or a noodle joint, skip the feeble dessert offerings and head to one of my favorite ice-cream shops in the city, the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory. The ice cream here features Asian flavors such as almond cookie, litchi, and an incredible green tea.

Chinatown's original has been serving delicious homemade ice creams for years, both the standard flavors as well as fantastic Asian-themed flavors like taro. A must-visit on every Chinatown itinerary!

Wanted to try the egg custard ice cream but they were out when we went, so I had the taro ice cream. It was creamy, flavourful, and not too sweet!

The Chinatown Ice Cream Factory is tiny but don’t let that deter you from going in. The dive is famous for its thick, homemade ice cream, and the unique flavors like red bean and black sesame. The servings may look small for the price, but the ice cream is so rich and delicious that you’ll have trouble finishing the whole cup. Be prepared for a bit of a wait - the place might be small but it’s...

Their lychee and black sesame ice creams are the staples.  As a matter of fact, I just get black sesame ice cream.  It's sweet but not too sweet.  And the sesame flavor gives off a nice nutty taste which is perfect.  My mom hates American ice cream because everything has so much sugar but she ate all of her black sesame ice cream here.  The best!

The Original Chinatown Ice Cream Factory is a family run business, they’ve been making ice cream for the last 30 years. The little shop is packed, so many people wanting to try out some of their unique flavors like Don Tot, Pandan, Lychee and Durian. Check out a full list of their flavors here. I found it amusing that pistachio is listed under the “exotic” flavors, but what they heck! Wasn’t...

The origins of ice cream are both mythical and abstract, including legends attributing the invention of ice cream to the Chinese during the Tang Dynasty.
