Help us make it rightThe sheer number of delivery options in NYC boggles the mind. Skipping pizza and Chinese (no offense, but done and done), these food angels offer something more, from the unexpected (shepherd's pie an...view mored booze!), to the miraculous (sog-free tacos), to the downright life-saving (homemade chicken soup). You don't even have to wear pants. view less
Calexico is a real place. One of two major crossings between California and Mexico, the border fence runs right through the middle of town. Take a step south and you're in Mexicali; a step north, Calexico.\n\nThis is not the California of surfers and movie stars. This is the Imperial Valley: hot, dusty, and off the beaten path. As the name suggests, everything about Calexico is a hybrid: the...
Mexican mavens "all abuzz" over these "rough-and-ready" street-cart spin-offs call out their "outstanding", "Cali-inspired" tacos, tortas and burritos; "fabulous prices" and "fast service" offset the "simple" "hole-in-the-wall" settings; P.S. "make sure to get the ‘crack' sauce on anything you order."
Love the chicken quesadilla. And the crack sauce is addicting!
Named for a California border town, this Brooklyn Mexican eatery began life as a cart. From there, the owners expanded into a full-blown taqueria, much to the neighborhood’s delight. The décor of stucco and Christmas lights is fitting enough for the no-frills but better-than-average Mexican fare. Most of the offerings are fairly typical---large burritos and juicy meat-filled tacos, as well as a...
Raising the bar for NYC Mexican. SoCal brothers behind the Calexico carts finally open a spot sans wheels. Purposefully mismatched space centers on bright red stucco wall sprinkled with crosses and folk art. Taqueria serves up the original street fare plus shrimp and grits, salads, daily specials. The real draw is the same as always: carne asada—marinated skirt steak, spiced and...
New Yorkers who have visited California know we compare poorly when it comes to casual Mexican food.
Luckily, we have Calexico, my go-to place for excellent carne asada burritos containing good-quality flavorful steak and pulled pork quesadillas, which I dip in the appropriately named crack sauce. Other good offerings, too, but I gravitate toward those two.
Now if only I...

Very tasty Mexican food. The quesadillas are pretty amazing. More like grilled burritos with lots of cheese. The crack sauce is crack and the micheladas are nice and refreshing. Unfortunately the delivery guy is so crazy looking I often loose my appetite.
Stopped for a quick bite. Small shop with interesting old world hacienda decor. We chose a vegetarian choice - black bean burrito and a meat choice - carne asada. Both tasted delicious. The size was huge and we both only ate half, saving the rest for later. Though I live far from Brooklyn, would visit here again.
Always hits the spot. Alternative anglo-mexican food for everyday folks. How can you bitch about a staff that is friendly to all types, not just ones that...
