I always enjoy Cafe Loup. I find both the food and the casual atmosphere to be wonderful. This visit the service was terrible. We waited and waited to place orders and to get our drinks and food. Literary lights abound. Surprisingly quiet on a recent wintry weekday Very French menu. Surprisingly reasonable. $52 for tax tip, two coffees, two entrees, one starter, one tea--that's half price by midtown Manhattan standards. Listen to the specials or go for your standbys.

This is a Greenwich Village stand-by, been going there for years. The food is always good and very down to earth, not at all trendy, but always reliable. The service is great and very friendly. Cafe Loup is like a home away from home.
