With the latest renovation of the Algonquin Hotel now complete, this iconic bar has been enlarged with some real estate from the former Oak Room. And it’s bluer than ever, with twinkling blue lights on the bar. — Florence Fabricant

Algonquin Hotel Review

This hotel is inextricably linked to the famous (and, at times, infamous) Round Table antics of the "Vicious Circle" writers, including Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchley and Alexander Woolcott. Starting in 1919, the group spent a decade's worth of daily gatherings swapping bon mots in the Rose Room here. Their lunches guaranteed the hotel a place in the imaginations of generations of writers to...

Stuffy yet unaffected: full of readers and writers enjoying the hard stuff.

A staff of stoic old fellows in bow ties and jackets sets a formal tone at this gentleman's den-like bar. Al Hirschfeld sketches on wood-paneled walls remain a constant year...

It was a very nice experience. The rooms are a little small, but a lovely and friendly old hotel. I recommend it, especially if you like something other than the big chain hotels.

We really liked the Algonquin.

The room is the size of a matchbox....no tub either.
Breakfast of coffee, two scrambled eggs, bacon, yogurt and toast $81.00.
Need I say more?
Everyone acts like they're...

Cool place but the cost was high for us, not worth it

We liked it but the high cost of the drinks curbed my enthusiasm. I believe there are happy hour prices, we were after theater.

Get sexy! Well it's the blue light and oozing of history perhaps

Great little bar with a sordid but sophisticated past. Drinks are pricey but stiffly poured. Bartenders have character and everybody looks great in blue lights!
