What the community has to say about Barbuto

Information about this business (3)

Barbuto occupies a large, airy space with curving, garage-style doors, which in the spring will open up to allow café tables to spill onto the sidewalk. With the doors closed, however, the room has a bare-bones, utilitarian feel, enhanced by café chairs, white-painted brick walls, and an open kitchen, where chef Jonathan Waxman himself can be seen wandering to and fro like a captain on his...

Barbuto's Anniversary Extended; Cómodo Team Expands

[Barbuto by Krieger]
WEST VILLAGE — Barbuto's 10th anniversary dinner on February 11 sold out so fast, the team has added a couple more dinners. On February 10 Jonathan Waxman will team up with Tom Colicchio and Marc Vetri to cook a four-course meal for $150 per person, and on February 12 all the Barbuto classics, like that essential roast chicken, will be served al la carte. Reservations for...

Parked in a "chic converted garage", this "unpretentious" West Village Italian showcases Jonathan Waxman's "simple but classy" cooking highlighted by a "life-changing" roasted chicken; the atmosphere's "upbeat" – ok, "noisy" – but it's somewhat "quieter in summer" when they roll up the doors and it becomes "semi-alfresco."

Barbuto's Tenth Anniversary; Rappahannock at City Grit

WEST VILLAGE — Barbuto is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a special dinner on February 11th. Jonathan Waxman has invited six of his chefs, both former and current, to cook a family-style meal of Barbuto classics. Those chefs include Justin Smillie of Il Buco Alimentari and Drew Curren of Austin's 24 Diner. Dinner is $100 per person and reservations can be made by calling 212-924-9700....

Watch Andrew Zimmern's Decadent Munchies Episode

In the latest installment of Vice's Munchies series, Bizarre Foods host Andrew Zimmern takes his friends out for a night on the town in New York City. While reminiscing about his early days as a drunk, drug-addled cook, Zimmern makes stops at Michael White's Osteria Morini for decadent pastas and 120-day aged prime rib, Marc Forgione's eponymous restaurant for several playful dishes, and...

Jonathan Waxman takes on seasonal Italian fare in a lofty West Village space.

Barbuto Restaurant Review: Jonathan Waxman is operating out of his comfort zone at Barbuto, his dressed-down Italian spot in the far West Village. Sited in a former garage---the airy space is highlighted by huge doors that open directly onto the street---the décor shoots for a minimalist chic aesthetic, right down to white walls and bare floors painted a utilitarian shade of gray. The kitchen...

Excellent food and attentive service. Gnocchi were light and delicious. Chicken was flavorful and juicy. Salads were perfectly dressed. Desserts were tasty - loved my cheesecake with pears. Only downside is the noise level. Lots of hard surfaces, nothing to absorb the sound.

Second time. Amazing food. The heat was brutal. We were sitting up against the windows and the heater was blasting us all night. We asked the server twice to remedy situation but didn't. She seemed nice otherwise so my guess was she couldn't? Really really uncomfortable all meal for our whole group.

Barbuto continues to be a favorite for both locals and visitors, who enjoy the restaurant's casual sophistication and neighborhood feel. The restaurant occupies an airy garage space on the ground floor of Industria Superstudios on Washington Street.

This large and spacious white brick-walled restaurant is located in the meatpacking district of New York. Tips about this business (4)

Where to Sit: The chef's table, separated from the dining room by a low partition, is just an arm's-length away from the small open kitchen and blazing oven. If no one has reserved it, you can ask to sit there at no extra charge.

What to Drink: The wine list is short but stellar, with many inexpensive Italian varietals, like rich, ruby Aglianico ($32), which pairs well with the food. Glass options include interesting blends, like a reisling-gewurtztraminer mix.
