Help us make it rightThis guy is a character. He does a good job on things like too-long pants (although I didn't like how he shortened my jeans - should have preserved original hem) and a great job taking in dresses. I can't say one way or the other on suits as the person below me had a bad experience - I haven't taken any suits in to him but I would give him a shot. He is convenient and cheap and fast, so I'm going to keep using his services. He smokes in the store but my clothes have never come back smelling like smoke and that would be a dealbreaker for me.
I left a pretty expensive Michael Kors overcoat--irreplaceable, since I bought the last piece my size--at William's. I was guided by the convenient location and the positive review here. I requested alterations to shoulders, waistline, and sleeves. William changed the left side of the coat, but forgot about the right side. The collar was not well sewn back, and despite my several attempts to explain that the overcoat collar is supposed to cover my suit jacket collar, he did not admit there was anything is wrong with it. I will go back tomorrow to pick up my coat only to probably have it...
NOTE WILLIAM HAS MOVED LOCATIONS TO 7 DEY STREET, ROOM 203 (2ND FLOOR)--NEXT TO CENTURY 21. William is by far one of the best tailors in the City. He has fast--I mean fast--turn-around (I heard him offer to alter a suit while the customer waited!) and does a great job at a truly great price--e.g., $8 for pant cuffs; $12 to take in a jacket; $10 to alter a shirt. His prices are far below a lot of other tailors. And he's personable and funny, which is a great bonus but an even better sign of his dedication to his customer. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND using this tailor.
