Alias Restaurant sits on the bustling corner of Clinton & Rivington in the heart of the Lower East Side. Don't be fooled though by its low-key façade. Inside is a neighborhood gem with some serious cooking going on! On any given lunch, brunch or dinner, you'll see locals of all ages talking to each other and enjoying the casual, friendly atmosphere not surprising the owners are always there and...
An affordable, inclusive-enough menu keeps this Lower East Side in the black by enticing the locals down for dinner and the bloggers in for lunch.
Little has changed since the time that a small Dominican restaurant occupied this space. Well, at least on the outside. Inside you’ll find sleek leather banquettes that line rugged, exposed-brick walls. On the Lower East Side's unlikely restaurant row, Wylie Dufresne acolyte Scott Ehrlich cooks pared-down contemporary food for cheap---no entrée is more than $18. Hip bargain-hunters come for...
Breast the carny-bodega threshold and you're in upscale-rustic territory, the sole survivor of aKa and 71 Clinton bloodletting. Perhaps world's first indication that middle children can be well-adjusted. Southernish feel, knowledgeable crowd, laidback staff. Seasonal ingredients make for an ever-changing menu, but flatbreads and roast pork are reliable features. Heaping nachos and chili with...
In Short
On a block where manicure parlors seem to outnumber residents, this pristinely designed trendy restaurant stands as one of its more startling anomalies. Curious teenagers, drawn... Pros + very creative food
Unfortunately, alias closed last week after many years of being one of lower east sides' nicer casual dining places.
Myself and other regulars were disappointed and sad for the very nice owners who ran the place for so long.
Nice friendly staff, a little too keen on pushing drink orders but I guess that's the norm. The food was imaginative and very tasteful but the chicken main course was, although delicious in and of it itself, other than a bed of spinach? (I didn't order it my friend did), a little lonely on the plate. I had the beef brisket which came with mashed potatoes and garlic kale and it was just perfect....
everything else was ehh. the brisket was mediocre, the cod (special of the day) wasn't too fresh and a bit bland, the veggie burger was TONS of black beans so if you're into black beans go for it. service was great, place was nice and clean, would def go back for drinks and apps, but skip the mains
Alias is incredible for brunch, but a little less memorable for dinner. Stick to afternoon hours, and you won't regret it!
Went for drinks and a late evening nosh, after seeing some music at Mercury Lounge. We settled in at the bar and were expertly cared for by the bartender, who kept us liquid and entertained with neighborhood gossip. A great spot that we all agreed we would revisit soon.

From its "heavenly, hangover-conquering" brunch to the "delicious" Sunday night "bargain" dinner, this "no-frills" LES American is a hit with "neighbors and strangers alike"; the "unpretentious atmosphere" adds to the overall "down-home" feel.
