This monument and museum are wonderful. My only issue was the opening times they displaced outside. I was there in early December. It was not snowing or raining. The monument outside was closed but the annotated hours for operation said it should have been open. I understand that when the weather is bad it should be closed but, if it is a nice day just cold people should be able to walk...

In the 17th and 18th centuries African New Yorkers buried their loved ones at the African Burial Ground. Closed in 1794, it was rediscovered in 1991 and is now a unit of the National Park Service. Please visit us at www.nps.gov/afbg to find out more.
