Help us make it rightZinc Bar is a live jazz music venue located at the heart of New York City. Down steep stairs and through a velvet curtain, but don't bother unless you intend to become a regular...
In Short Red light bulbs and lampshades cast a crimson glow upon a bordello-like bar bedecked with burgundy velvet-draped couches and a slew of nude prints. A curtain blanketing the back wall gives the impression that a show is…
Located on the border of Soho, Zinc Bar offer a good mix of jazz, Latin, samba, and flamenco Bands. It is more of a late night place.
The Scene
Nestled in an easy-to-miss nook on Houston Street, Zinc Bar ushers guests through plush red velvet curtains to a cramped yet cozy front room that throbs with the band's every...
The vibe is thick with history; they say this was one of Billie Holliday's spots and you can definitely feel it in the walls. There is an eclectic music program with a big dose of Samba-Jazz. The more I go the more I feel at home and love it.
Pros
+ Its a part of what makes New York special.
Cons
- Hard to grab a table.
Love the new space, even though I miss the intimacy from the old one -it's great to see bands now with 6-12 pieces, which they never could have fit in the old space. Been there a few nights now and have been amazed at the quality of music each and every time. The staff is attentive and friendly, and the vibe is fun. Definitely recommend a visit. On west 3rd street now.
Pros
+ Great music friendly staff
Cons
- Difficult to find
When I heard that the Zinc Bar had moved, I was concerned that the change in locale might spoil it's great vibe. Unfortunately it was far worse than I could have imagined. Although the space is much larger (including better bathroom facilities which were much needed), it now longer has the same cool atmosphere. Admittedly, I was there on a Monday, a slower night, but it had the air of the sort of jazz club that the tourist bus might pull up too. Most of the clientele were elderly and the two acts were just plain bad.....a first in my years as a patron. How sad. It might still be worth...
Hey did any one know that Zinc Bar is in a new location? They're now on West 3rd Street. The music, the vibe, the space is even better than ever!!!!!
Pros
+ Great music for just dollars
Very nice place to end your night with some great music, a cozy, warm setting, and a nice crowd. Just what you expect from a Jazz bar - it's narrow, it's dark, it's cramped but the music is good and the...
Zinc Bar was founded in 1992, and is located at 90 W Houston St Bsmt B in New York.
The jazz at the Zinc Bar ranges from North America's coolest to South America's hottest. Enter this popular spot, descend a steep stairway and brush through a velvet curtain to arrive at the table side and enjoy what has been called 'New York City's most happening jazz club' by Guitar Player magazine. Even if a few aficionados disagree with this statement, there are enough people out there who...
No matter what, you'll pay a $5 cover and required to order one drink. Those seated at tables in the live music room must order two.
