La Jolla's latest village hangout focuses on a slow-food menu full of local ingredients, including beer and house-infused liquors

While we’re confident the food and cocktails you will enjoy are fantastic, what we’re most proud of is the time and care that goes into ending on your plate. On the most basic level, the process starts at the farms, ranches and fisheries we support do to their commitment to quality and preservation and it continues in house as we make, bake, churn, cure, age, pickle, brine, smoke…everything in...

Whisknladle Restaurant Review

This popular La Jolla eatery draws a crowd for its cool design, compelling menu and great drinks. Chef Ryan Johnston and proprietor Arturo Kassel have offered different takes on the locally-sourced-ingredient theme. Start with Milagro Farms pomegranate and fig salad with fresh burrata, or steak tartare on Texas toast. Share one of the rotating flatbreads like fennel sausage with arugula or a...

From cured salamis and hand-cut pastas to churned ice cream and fresh-fruit cocktails, just about everything at this laid-back star of La Jolla's dining scene is made in-house. Sourcing from the cream of local farmers, ranchers, and fishermen, chef Ryan Johnston fills his menu with the best local ingredients: Our faves include the charcuterie (the duck prosciutto is addictive), the crispy...

In Short
From the large patio in front full of garden-like tables, Whisknladle still shows signs of it's past life as ""ladies-who-lunch"" mecca, Fresh. But one glimpse of the sleek new...

First time eating at Whisknladle - the food was only OK... Nothing special and overpriced for the end result. The server seemed about as snoody as you'd expect in La Jolla so no points off there. Ordered 2 Old Fashions the first came with 1 big ice cube (nice!) the next with well ice cubes like you'd expect with a jack and diet in some Irish bar in the Gaslamp (much less nice...). I had been...

Since abandoning lunch, the restaurant's dinner menu, preparation and service has improved. That said, the major increase in prices was a bit of an unexpected surprise - especially with the additional 3.5% server charge for the minimum wage hike. Taken all together, our dining experience was improved over earlier loud and hurried visits, but the price increase will now make us consider other...

WNL is always a great meal. They never dissapoint. Great food made with exceptional fresh ingredients. Love the French toast for brunch. And the flatbread is everchsnging and creatively amazing.

If anyone wants to have a great evening with great food this is the place. Beware of the limited menu. Preview online to make sure something sparks your interest. It has a great location where you can take a nice stroll after an early dinner or shop a bit before your reservation. I had the steak and it was not only a good value but great quality cooked perfectly. I would recommend this...
