Crooks Don't Need the Actual Card

There was a report on the Los Angeles Channel 2 news last night about crooks using info from debit/ATM cards. Crooks use "skimmers" when you make a legitimate purchase to get the info from the magnetic strip then make a new card they can use on your account.
