Where To Eat Right NOW; Updating The Eater Heatmap

More often than not, tipsters, readers, friends and family of Eater have just one question: Where should I eat right now? Restaurant obsessives want to know what's new, what's hot and what to try. And while the Eater 38 is a great resource that covers old standbys and neighborhood essentials across the city, it's not a chronicle of the 'it' places of the moment.

Thus, we offer the Eater...

Where Chefs Eat With Waypoint Public's Amanda Baumgarten

SoCal native Amanda Baumgarten logged more that a decade in Michelin-starred kitchens from London to Los Angeles and became a familiar face after starring in season seven of Bravo's "Top Chef". Baumgarten moved to San Diego to open Herringbone in La Jolla before becoming executive chef-partner of Waypoint Public, which opened last fall and was recently named one of "The Best New Beer...

Waypoint Public Is Open, Won't You Join Them For Beer?

Waypoint Public's bar was up and running over the weekend but tonight marks the debut of the new North Park restaurant's full kitchen service.

Chef/partner Amanda Baumgarten has crafted what she's calling an "eclectic California neighborhood bistro menu" that includes three types of house made terrines, two riffs on a burger, seafood (charred octopus, fried oyster tacos), meat (pork and veal...

Waypoint Public's Almost Ready To Meet North Park

If you frequented The Linkery, your eyes might need to adjust a little to take in the new Waypoint Public from John Pani (Little Italy's Hotel Vyvant), Brian Jensen (Bottlecraft) and chef-partner Amanda Baumgarten, which plans to open later this month. The corner building's facade has been painted a gleaming white and the interior reconfigured to maximize seating and light, thanks to an...

Amanda Baumgarten, formerly of Herringbone, is joining a team that includes Bottlecraft Bottle Shop owner Brian Jensen and John Pani, a local hotel and hospitality vet.

Unique decor/details (love the grass wall, the industrial feel, and the mismatched vintage plates), endless beer list, and best of all a kid pit with all kinds of toys to distract your little one! The food is excellent. Grilled cheese and butternut squash soup all the way!

I was here when it was formerly Linkery and now that it is Waypoint Public, it is still busy. It's kid friendly, which makes it one of the few places that is that way in North Park. It makes this very special. As I stepped in, the hostess already has a smile on her face. I got here at 12:30pm and it was packed! I got the chilaquiles from the brunch menu and it was good! Service is personable.
