Nice staff and doctor, but a complete rip-off. This Vet is way over priced and seems to be in it for the money. My old Vet quoted the same emergency work on my dog for less than half of what VCA Sandy Lake Animal Hospital charged me. I trusted I was getting the best care at the best price. I was wrong and I will never go back to this Vet.
Not to mention they did no stitch up my dogs wound when they released him to me because they wanted more money. They wanted over 230$ more for 2 stitches after charging 800$ for Fluids, 3 x-rays, pain meds and some bandages. I took my dog back to my old vet the next day they said he did not even need any stitches.
I called two other local vet clinics today and gave the the rundown on what was done for my dog and a price quote. Both of there quotes were over 50% cheaper than VCA sandy lake. They would have also stitched up my dog at no cost while they were cleaning the wound.
When I first started to take my dogs here, I was pleased with the services. However, I feel like VCA is starting to become more of a sales-oriented practice than a care practice. They will bring you a very high price quote with excessive services added to the list. Once they convince you that your pet "needs" all of the items on the list, they make you sign it and then perform the services. I have been duped on a handful of very expensive things that I felt turned out unncessary. I have also had to return my dogs one or more times after an initial problem visit, only to pay for another examination. If you ask me, it is starting to get ridiculous. I grew up with and have always had dogs. We always had private-practice vets and the one problem visit was all it took (of course, I realize there are exceptions) and excessive product sales were not pushed on the customers.
In my humble opinion, VCA has become a practice that feels like a car sales lot instead of a place that truly cares for the animals. They know how to pull on your heart strings and hit you where it hurts! Beware. I think your money will be better spent on a veterinarian who loves your pet and doesn't see dollar signs when it walks in the door.
