I am not their regular client; our vets recommended HwdAH for emergencies because HwdAH is a teaching hospital with a 24/7 intensive care unit and 17 vets.
Cedric, our then 12 year old GSP rescue, had a stroke. The moment I pushed the emergency bell at HwdAH, the staff and gurney were there, got the dog into a treatment room, and connected stabilizing and diagnostic equipment. Dr. Lavalle was wonderful, as were all the others who worked on Cedric. I was incredibly impressed. Unfortunately, the story did not end well for Cedric, and again the staff were wonderful when I brought family and dogs to say goodbye. And, amazingly, there was no charge for the emegency and follow-up services.
More recently, Ernest, a now 12 year old GSP rescue, was spiked by another dog in a local dog park. Two inches of brain showing through the gash in his skull. Dr. Romano and staff acted immediately, and within hours, Ernest was patched up and on his way home for rest and recuperation. The bill was $212 including anaesthesia and everything else. Ernest is fully reovered and a joy.
I will transfer our three dogs to HwdAH as soon as I can figure out how to explain to our longtime and greatly valued vets that we aren't leaving them as much as preparing for end-of-life situations, canine and human.

This place used to be owned by the Dee brothers (all vets)., it was the best place in town.. Since VCA took over, it is ALL about money. Everyone works on commission. Take note; this is also a training hospital. You will be assigned a brand new inexperienced vet unless you specifically someone.. The pros are there is someone there 24/7, the cons are you will go bankrupt paying this...
Dr Jessica Lukens is a true blessing. She consistently goes above and beyond for our 16 years old JRT. A few years ago he was diagnosed with diabetes and we firmly believe that we would have lost him had it not been for Dr Luken's skills, knowledge, compassion and dedication. Dr Lukens is a true example of an animal lover, our JRT can sense this and was immediately drawn to her from day one....
I had 2 dogs, both had parvo. Both were admitted for 3 or 4 nights costing us over 5k.. one dog made it, the other did not. Parvo only kills if the dog is not dehydrating. There was no reason for that to happen. She was a healthy strong dog fighting for her life. She wanted to live, they did nothing to stop the bleeding in her stomach.. i owe them like 2k for my dead dog. I will sue them if...
