Urban Solace Restaurant Review

Urban Solace in North Park is known for its lively bar scene, bluegrass brunch and creative fare from chef Matt Gordon. Go straight for the Sonoma goat cheese and butternut squash dip with cornmeal crackers or the warm cheese biscuits lavished in orange-honey butter. We like the braised beef cheeks with smoked tomato jam, nestled artfully on brown butter mash. Cocoa-crusted pork belly mingles...

Where Chefs Eat With BO-beau's Katherine Humphus

BO-beau Kitchen + Bar's chef Katherine Humphus, who was recently named head of the Cohn's BO-beau kitchen + rooftap in Long Beach is a San Diego native who trained in Paris, earning Le Grand Diplome in cuisine and pastry from Le Cordon Bleu. The executive chef has also logged time at Wylie Dufresne's WD-50 in Manhattan and The French Laundry with Thomas Keller.

"Down-home cooking" takes on a "creative" bent at this "reasonably priced" American in "funky" North Park, where the "creamy comfort food" is made with "gourmet" ingredients and features "interesting, eclectic" twists; a "straightforward" staff tends to "relaxed yet hip" clientele in a "dim, romantic" space that gets especially "crowded" during the "bomb" Sunday bluegrass brunch; P.S. Encinitas...

Really good food/service/ambiance! The only thing I didn't love was it feel like the server was in a rush to get our order in and brought to us - like taking our time was frowned upon. We like taking a little time to enjoy our drinks before the meal, time to enjoy the appetizer with drinks while we talk, and then get our food a bit later. But everything arrived so back to back it was kind of...

Food, desert and drinks were great. The gal in charge came by the tables frequently asking if everything was ok.

This is my second time here. We are foodies, with a palate for good earnest food, and this fits the bill.

Best meal I've had in 5 months and I eat out regularly in most major cities. Our table had the basil rubbed chicken, chicken and dumplings, and salmon, with soups and salad to start, and key lime pie for dessert. Wine list also included a great Malbec by the glass. Easy parking across the street, beautiful architecture outside ala New Orleans, and modern interior. I will definitely be back.

Business description (8) view all

Solace Urban is located at 3823 30th St in San Diego and has been in the business of Retail - Delicatessen Stores since 2007.

We are located in the heart of North Park’s “Restaurant Row”, near bustling neighborhoods of Hillcrest, South Park and University Heights, and just north of Downtown San Diego and Balboa Park. We are open seven days a week and feature our famous “Bluegrass Brunch” every Sunday.

Located in a redesigned building that would be more at home in the French Quarter of New Orleans than in the heart of newly-artsy North Park, this bar and restaurant has grown up out of a previously ordinary coffee house at the same location. Urban Solace provides addictive food for those who don't know what a kitchen at home is for, and the gourmet white mac and cheese will make you forget...
