Pleasant, Affordable Night Out

We had great service, food and drinks at Tom's recently. I found it notable that the prices were very reasonable. A nice wine list, menu choices and waitress topped the evening off. Pleasant atmosphere and they're open late which is much appreciated!

As the name suggests, Tom's is an area favorite with an extensive oyster selection. But don't miss the spicy crawfish bisque and the many fresh fish dishes. The walls are done in dark paneling covered by lots of old New Yorker covers. There's open-air dining on a flower-filled patio.

Tom's Oyster Bar Restaurant Review

The small storefront on Royal Oak's busy Main Street usually is packed to the gills. People often are two-deep at the bar, which shares the space with equally crammed tables covered with blue-and-white-checked cloths. It's all part of the tavern experience. As the name indicates, fresh, raw oysters on the half shell take center stage. Beyond that, there are other reasons to come here as well....

The place to indulge your craving for raw oysters and other finny species.

In Short
Much like the other Tom's in this successful seafood chain, the decor is replete with dark wood, stamped tin ceiling and framed covers of the 1920s-era Yachtman's Magazine. Start...

We made a reservation online for 8:00 on a Saturday and got there on time. They said it would just be a moment for a table. We said no problem. I worked in the restaurant industry and know the way it goes. The manager was very nice and friendly and offered a drink for having to wait. This is what showed me that this place goes above and beyond to put the guest first. Not that we would have...

Tom's Oyster Bar has been in Royal Oak for a long time and for good reason. The staff is super friendly. They're not shy about recommending dishes or cocktails to try of you're unsure. All the food came out in a steady but not rushed time span. Our server Charlie was very good. Great date atmosphere.

I enjoyed the seared sea bass special. I thought the serving was a bit small but maybe not. I didn't care much about how the fettuccine served with shrimp pesto special looked like it was to certain length but the dish was good.

Molly Abraham, Detroit News Restaurant Critic: The casually comfortable seafood tavern has been a presence in downtown Royal Oak for many years. In addition to the titular oysters, it has an extensive menu of fish and seafood, friendly service and a popular sidewalk cafe in suitable weather. Added recently: a side-by-side sibling, Ale Mary's, with its own entrance, featuring craft beers and a...
