First thing, make reservations. Second thing, be prepared to stand in line. This wildly popular place, named Thep Phanom, often has lines sneaking out the door. It is worth the wait, though. You will be greeted by an attractive dining room at odds with the neighborhood's post-punk-neo-hippie grunge and an array of rarified Thai food that will likely bring you back to wait in line again. The...
Presenting "phenomenally fresh and tasty" fare in a "small" "dimly lit" Lower Haight Victorian, this long-running Thai "never fails" to deliver a "more formal" Siamese dining experience ("not Westernized at all") "complete with authentically costumed" staff, "classically prepared dishes" and "traditional" decor; it "gets crowded" and as result "service can be spotty" but prices are reasonable.
Thep Phanom is the city's best Thai restaurant. Don't miss the fried quail or the chicken wings stuffed with glass noodles. The meat salads, particularly the chicken and beef, are dressed with fish sauce, lime and herbs. Try the tom kha…
The city’s best and hippest Indo-Pak restaurant by far. The perfect combo of cool setting (dig the Bollywood posters and trance beats), great food, cheap prices, lively vibe and friendly service. Tandoori and curry chefs churn out fantastic Tikka Masala and Curry Grant. Side of garlic naan and house-made mango chutney a must. Spotty service, but at these prices who cares? I used to live a few blocks from this Lower Haight restaurant and it became my favorite Thai restaurant in the City. Its small, cosy and unpretentious, but the food is really tasty. I recommend the Tom Kha Goog - a coconut-lemongrass based soup with shrimp. I like it spicy, but if you don't, they can adjust for your taste. The Thai curries are all great, as is the Pad Thai.
Delicious neighborhood Thai restaurant.

Chef Pat Parikanont opened Thep Phanom Thai Restaurant, named after a Thai angel, in the Lower Haight-Ashbury district in 1986. Set within an older grand Victorian building, she felt it was the perfect showcase for her family’s exquisite collection of century old Thai antiques and Victorian window treatments with just a touch of the 60’s kitsch. (It’s the Haight after all!) Her timing was...
