What the community has to say about The Foundry on Melrose

Information about this business (7)

Melrose eatery and lounge draws the next generation of fine diners with refined American fare and fair-minded prices.

Located in the heart of the historic Melrose shopping district the Melrose Umbrella Co. is bringing the social cocktail experience back to basics, where chivalry is alive and well: a place where you are welcomed as a neighbor in an atmosphere that feels like home.

In the early stages of development, owners Zach Patterson, Ian Shepp, & Austin Melrose sought to create a brand and environment...

The interiors of Melrose Umbrella Co. sparkle with a brown and golden radiance, reminiscent of an imposing and luxurious lounge from early 20th Century America or Europe. The building housing this cocktail bar was constructed in 1936 and designer Matt Winter has preserved some of its original elements. Heavy wooden cabinets, wood-decked ceiling and flooring, old oil paintings, tiled columns,...

In the midst of the formerly groovy Melrose Shopping District, this hyper-trendy DTLA-worthy watering hole is a smart destination for those in need of a wide assortment of cocktails, both classic and modern. The bar itself is fairly small, but there are lots of tables and booths in the quirky space that looks like a mashup between Frank Lloyd Wright and Gaudi; and yes, there are lots of...

The Foundry on Melrose Takes a Time Out for New Look

Word just in that chef Eric Greenspan's six-year-old Melrose eatery, The Foundry, is shuttering on May 19 for a facelift. Flacks for the restaurant says that later in the summer The Foundry will reopen with a new "more refined" back patio "scene" and an overall "exciting new look." Also, a revamped bar program is in the works, to be developed by Ian Shepp (Key Club), Zach Patterson (Bagatelle),...

Eric Greenspan, Jay Perrin, and Jim Hustead of The Newly Formed Foundation Hospitality Group Share News on Projects To Come

After years of friendship Eric Greenspan (chef/partner at The Foundry), Jay Perrin (former GM at Campanile and The Tar Pit), and Jim Hustead (OnSite Consulting, Entropy Collective) have joined forces to form The Foundation Hospitality Group, a restaurant consulting company focused on strengthening The Foundry on Melrose and expanding into other restaurant projects. On a recent balmy evening,...

The Other Greenspan raises our interest rate in the Miracle Mile movement of passionate gourmets pushing real food in artful directions far beyond freshness and form. French wine pairings and technique, down-home country with Japanese touches. Quail egg topped hamachi, pork belly scrambled eggs, donuts for desert. Excellent dishes abound. Sexy high-brows in Italian make speakeasy elegance...

Tasty drinks, excellent happy hour pricing and options. The goat cheese was a little excessive on the tuna appetizer (overwhelming the other flavors) but made it very filling. The Cuban "poutine" was delicious and the after-school special was a great comfort food option. The tomato soup wasn't too sweet and the basil pushed it into "excellent" for me.

Neighborhood craft cocktail creators

The restaurant's comfortable contemporary interior, courtesy of Sandy Davidson (Meson G, Rocca) flawlessly parallels both the imaginative, modern elements and the warm, traditional base of the cuisine. The venue's hand-crafted, art-deco feel has been inspired by the craftsmanship of the Machine Age and the industrial innovation of Streamline Moderninsm. Sconces fabricated from vintage heat...

The Foundry on Melrose is a swanky, fun, food-driven restaurant right in the heart of world-famous Melrose Avenue. Featuring the cuisine of Executive Chef and owner Eric Greenspan, The Foundry on Melrose serves exciting, market driven and creative "fancy schmancy" food in a casually elegant atmosphere. Our Dinner Menu is available Monday through Saturday 6 -11pm in both our Garden Dining Room,...

Grilled cheese "fit for foodies" leads the lineup at this "feel-good" Melrose New American where chef-owner Eric Greenspan turns out "bold, fun" fare in a space with live blues and jazz in the lounge up front and a patio in back; at press time the dining room and menu were undergoing a spruce-up.

Famed chef extraordinaire Eric Greenspan of Patina and Meson G strives to create fine dining for the everyman with his trendy Melrose restaurant. Unique tasting menus allow adventurous diners to sample a little bit of everything, with selections from the extensive wine list complementing each course. Live jazz performers add to the lively bar scene.
