Tamarind Tribeca Restaurant Review

Down in the lower reaches of TriBeCa in a cavernous bi-level space on a quiet corner, you'll find this upscale Indian restaurant. The décor is sleek yet comfortable, the air is civilized and the service is restrained to match. Though the wine list is extensive and widely priced for those with money to spare, don't overlook the cocktails. Clean and balanced, the ginger and pepper martini is a...

This "civilized" duo, again rated NYC's top Indian, provides "exceptional" gourmet cuisine and "gracious" service both at the "warm" Flatiron original and the more expansive TriBeCa spin-off; while it's "not cheap", the overall "superior" performance is "worth the rupees" – and the $25 prix fixe lunch works for those "on a budget."

Flatiron spot expands to epic, Tabla-like space in Tribeca. Two levels of perfunctory poshness, with sage-shaded seats, marble and wood accents. Menu brings together regional Indian specialties. Punjabi goat, Kashmiri chili sauce, pickled venison, okra with dried pomegranate and mango. Glassed-in tandoori oven turns out classic breads, chicken tikka, yogurt-marinated lamb. Not quite as exotic...

Citysearch Editorial Review

If you’ll pardon the alliteration, Tamarind Tribeca is truly a temple. Whereas the original Tamarind on East 22nd Street feels bustling yet homey--the sort of place where the staff will remember...

Supposed to be a very good Indian restaurant, well if you come from the UK you wouldn't say that, in my opinion its just about average with pricing on the high side.

Perfect ambience, wonderful service and really good food- that's how I would sum up Tamarind. First thing that you notice upon entering is the ambience, it's just great. It's spacious yet very personal in the way tables are arranged. Service is professional and the best...

Went for a late dinner after Broadway show. A lot of people still there at 10pm on a Sunday night.
Family shared 3 entrees, Nan, Tamarind rice. Service was outstanding, interior was just gorgeous.
Had a bourbon specialty cocktail which was well done.

What to Drink: Yogurt-based lassis definitely offset the spiciness of some dishes, as do super-sized bottles of Taj Mahal and Kingfisher. And then there are the house cocktails, which echo the neighborhood: blood orange cosmo, lychee daquiri, cucumber gimlet, and so on.

Where to Sit: On a sunny day, any seat in the main dining area will do, as the light just floods in from the huge windows, but the upstairs tables, surrounded by high glass, have their own charm, looking out over the crowds below.

The Extras: The executive lunch includes a choice of appetizer, dessert and several small mains (the Dakshin, for instance, comes with tandoori sea bass, machli ki tikki and konju pappas), plus bread and rice.
