Alas, another victim of rising rents, the Strand Annex bit the dust in September 2008. But you can still visit the beautiful main location on Broadway in NoHo and browse the miles of shelves to your heart's content.

I know what you’re thinking. If you have heard of Strands before and snubbed it for a trip to Borders or Barnes & Nobles instead, please give Strands another chance. The next time you are in need of a particular book, look beyond the warehouse décor and hipsters laying spread out on the floor sampling the latest out of print reads, and consider all of the money you could be saving. Take a look around this non traditional book emporium complete with new/used titles, and rare books that are hard to find even on Amazon. Only here can you find everything from a large selection of great $1 used...

Maybe it is not Barnes and Nobles, but sometimes you can find books you won't see anywhere else... I got a habit of checking it out once or twice a month.

I went there to sell some old books i did not need any more. I was faced with the most despising, indifferent, obnoxious people. They barely talked to me, basically treated me like a convict, it was a horrendous experience. Next time, I'll just put my books to recycle...
