Downtown's trendy clubs come and go like the ocean tides, but for more than 40 years, gaudy red and black Star Bar with its hundreds of cases of beer stacked on the bare wood floor has stood firm as the Gaslamp's quintessential dive bar. Hard-drinking locals, Navy sailors, and some adventurous tourists come down for cheap beer and stiff drinks. The trashy-hot bartenders fuel barstool rumors...

Downtown dive bar combines kitschy atmosphere with cheap drinks and a rough-and-tumble set of regulars.

In Short
Often singled out as one of San Diego's legendary dive bars, this colorful hangout near Horton Plaza attracts a crowd of hard-core drinkers and weekend warriors ready to party....

My first mobile review!Three words: Rachel the Bartender. A transplant from Hawaii, with a beautiful face and an equally beautiful personality! By the time my friends and I got to Star Bar it was already 1 am and everything else seemed to be closed. We meandered our way to the bar, plopped on …

Star Club can be found at E St 423. The following is offered: Bars & Pubs. The entry is present with us since Sep 9, 2010 and was last updated on Nov 14, 2013. In San Diego there are 128 other Bars & Pubs. An overview can be found here.

The Star Bar is one of the shamelessly gaudy bars in the Gaslamp. Their decorations are bright, strange and beautiful. They obviously serve a great deal of cold beer and even some modest fingerfood-style cuisine.

Attic II is a contemporary casual clothing shop focused on bringing a new culture to clothing based on artistic freedom and design. The store carries a wide array of eclectic street fashions for men and women from various designers, including t-shirts, button-downs, and caps.

For decades the Star Bar has stood stalwartly at the end of E Street while the downtown landscape changed around it like a time-lapse photograph. It has aged slowly into the institution it is today — the most shamelessly gaudy bar the Gaslamp has ever seen. If you like your dive bars painfully ironic, you'll feel right at home at the Star Bar.

On first visit, you might assume that the place...

What To Drink: Anything you order will be cheap and potent. Prices are marked on the bottles behind the bar.

Know Before You Go: There's a jukebox heavy on 70s and 80s tunes but dancing is discouraged.

When To Go: Stop in for affordable drinks with friends before or after hitting the pricey clubs nearby.
