Help us make it rightOpened December 8, 2009 in San Francisco, CA Smuggler's Cove is the ultimate destination to experience the entire world of rum. From classic Caribbean drinks to the legendary exotic cocktails of famous tiki bars, Smuggler's Cove showcases the past, present, and future of a remarkable spirit.
If the name Smuggler's Cove conjures pictures of pirates singing, "Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum," well rest assured that's no mistake. This bar specializes in rum-based drinks, specifically Havana Probation-era, traditional Caribbean and tiki bar concoctions. The decor echoes the menu, providing comfortable seating in a tiki bar-inspired atmosphere. Smuggler's Cove makes sure to maintain a...
The world of rum & exotic cocktails
Insert pirate joke here: San Francisco theme bar and Tiki culture have reached their highest expression, with fully baked retro concept, décor and artisanal rum menu. In tiny former Jade space, enter a dark, windowless cave full of authentic, salvaged nautical artifacts. Owner Martin Kate is serious (even downright academic) about rum and its role in history; Smuggler's Cove offers a club of...
The former Jade Bar space has been transformed into an over-the-top, three-story nautical theme bar by owner Martin Cate, one of the nation’s top tiki cocktail experts. Fitting with tiki tradition,...
Another alternative to the overbeaten tourist path, Smuggler's Cove is a three tiered affair that gives the impression of being on a sailing ship, or in a pirates lair.
Sono stato un questo locale visitando SF (non è semplice da trovare, conviene prendere il taxi e farvi indicare la porta a destinazione). I cocktails sono molto buoni. Il locale è molto scuro con arredamento in tono con il nome. Davvero bello.
I went to this tiki-style speakeasy after the 49ers lost the Super Bowl, and the bar staff was justifiably a bit subdued. When you enter Smuggler’s cove, you feel like you are sitting in the hull of a pirate ship: a nerd’s paradise. This place as far as I can...
volcano on fire?! scorpion bowl on fire?!?! light 'em up, boys!if you don't know what i'm talking about, you MUST come here and try it out - if only for the novelty and entertainment factor....
I missed this place the first time I walked by... It is kind of hidden... You'd really have to know where it is or you would need to do some scouting ...I came here as my first stop on my 21st...
Regular patrons can join the Rumbustion Society or the Mahalo Club, which offer discounts and other incentives for trying all of the 80 cocktails and over 200 rums.
Don't expect to pop in for a quick drink- the cocktails at Smuggler's Cove take time to make as many contain half a dozen ingredients, and there are only two bars inside the space.
Going in a group? Try the Top Notch Volcano that serves four people and comes in a custom-designed volcano-shaped bowl.
