bad skin graft

Do not go to Significance Dental Specialists (Dr. Allen Huang)!! Poor workmanship, overpriced procedures, and an uncooperative and rude office staff. I urge you to look elsewhere for any future procedures.
I was in need of a skin graft for a receding gum line on a bottom tooth. My research online had led me to believe that this would cost around $500-1000. I was referred to Dr. Allen Huang at Significance Dental Specialists (SDS). I called and asked the receptionist what the ball park would be on this procedure. I was told $895 for one tooth and $1200 for two teeth. I set up an appointment on 7/10/2013. When I got to the office I was charged $175 for the visit and consultation, a fee at which I was not informed about when making the appointment. I went back to the dental chair where the doctor explained to me that I was correct in needing a skin graft for a receding gum line on one tooth. He stepped out of the office then and the billing woman came in. She explained that the procedure would cost $1290. I asked if that was for two teeth and she said no, just one. I asked why it wasn’t $895 instead of the $1290 and I explained that I was told it would be $895 for one tooth when I called prior. She said that the girl on the phone shouldn’t have quoted me a price and that I needed a mid grade skin graph which was more. (I can see what she meant, however, when shopping around for a Doctor; price plays a role in that. The receptionist works for the office so in essence they are responsible for what she says. The receptionist should have asked someone what the price range should’ve been for me.) So I was forced to pay $1290 if I wanted the procedure done. I was also required to pay the $1290 in full since they were out of my network. I went ahead with the procedure since I was moving from Las Vegas to the east coast in a month. The actual procedure seemed great at first. I was out of the office in less than 2 hours. I was scheduled to come back in a week for a follow up. For the first two weeks everything seemed fine and I went back to the office and he said it was healing nicely. I assumed that was it; however he then said it would take another six weeks to fully heal. I was a little confused at this because this was the first time he mentioned how long it would take to fully heal. I reminded him that I was leaving Las Vegas in another two weeks and I wouldn’t be able to come back for a follow up in a month, so he had me come back in in two more weeks (7/30). At this time the swelling was going down but so was the skin that he had grafted over my tooth. I assumed that was normal and at the second follow up he said it looked great. So I left Las Vegas for the east coast. Mid August I noticed that the skin that was grafted over my tooth was rapidly going away. So this started to worry me. I kept an eye on it and it got worse, just about to the point it was before I had the procedure. On top of that, the muscle was really starting to hurt and now it hurts to smile. I called the office to voice my concern and they said they couldn’t do anything and brushed me off. I called back again, this time I asked is there any way I could get a partial refund so I could find a local doctor to have them fix it. Again they said no. I kept calling and started getting upset because I felt like I wasted nearly $1500 on a procedure that produced no results. I was told that it sometimes doesn’t take on every person and that they weren’t responsible for it anymore. They offered no resolution for a failed procedure. We argued back and forth, I kept asking for a refund, and they kept saying no. I must have called them ten times looking for a resolution of some kind. They said they would call back but I would get no as a response until I called them. As always they kept saying they are no longer responsible. I also kept asking to speak to a manager and they said they would have someone call me but no one ever did. I am out $1500 and have nothing to show for it. I felt it necessary to let people know how they deal with their customers and my hope is you seek another doctor for your work.

Pleasant, nice and compassionate. Been going to him for years. The office staff is wonderful as well as the hygienist. Everything is always organized and there is never a question. Dr. Browand is conservative and won't do surgery just to make money. He'll avoid any invasive procedures if he possible can
