This exquisite mansion just southeast of downtown was built in 1887 for internationally acclaimed musician and author Jesse Shepard. Check the web as the museum has funny hours, but a great Victorian house with a fascinating history (ghosts, murder, music).

I failed to do enough research to realize that this attraction has been closed since 2006. The architecture from the outside is extremely interesting and the view of the downtown from the street in front of the building is very impressive. I would have ranked it higher if there was an opportunity to see the interior also.

Villa Montezuma, also known as The Victorian Painted Lady is a beautiful mansion near the San Diego State Univeristy Campus. The outside of the house is very exotic. Vibrant colors that pop during the day. Inside it is beautifully decorated. Supposedly it's haunted but I haven't heard any stories.
