Information about this business (4)

In brief, you should know the following about us: our company was established in 1919, and had been responsible for providing outstanding best mexican food ever since. Our specialty is in the area: big round tamales, enchiladas, seafood and some different dishes more. Our regular customers particularly value our traditional flavor from mexico.

At Roosevelt Tamales Parlor, it is definitely a sit-down affair and has been for almost a century. So, sit down, relax, and prepare for a feast. These fat, succulent tamales come filled with juicy, chilli-spiked chicken, pork or beef. Enchiladas are equally decadent, thick with cheese and various stuffings. Each item comes with sides of red beans and rice in portions which are more than...

Legend has it that Roosevelt Tamale Parlor was started in 1919 by a Dutch immigrant who so admired Teddy Roosevelt, that he named this San Francisco restaurant after the 16th U.S. President. Since 1919, Roosevelt Tamale Parlor has survived as a legend in its own right a venerable San Francisco institution that has been patronized by loyal customers for decades. Today it is run by Chef/Owner...

Editorial reviews from the web (3)

New owners have taken over, giving this old-school Mission spot a cute, updated makeover. The menu has been fine-tuned: go for the Caesar, pozole, and weekend brunch is bountiful (hope for the iced coffee horchata!).

It is, naturally, all about the tamales.

More sit-down restaurant than taqueria, this Mexican diner dishes up huge plates of authentic favorites.

A neon arrow points hungry 24th Street passersby indoors, where fresh guacamole, chile rellenos, chorizo with eggs, carne asada, flautas and more are served up fresh all day. And don't forget the...

The event overshadowed the experience for me. A rare in a lifetime dinner with an old flame from 23 years ago took place here and it was fine - until the place flooded with guests and it cut short our dinner because we could not hear ourselves talk. But that's a good thing under normal circumstances for an average evening...

We were staying with Mel & Ry around the corner (airbnb) and they recommended this place.
Food was sooooo tasty. The sangria was amazing and complimented the food really well. The service was spectacular and we were seated and fed quickly
Great place and will definitely be back.

I don't live in SF anymore. I did from '84 to 2000. Roosevelt Tamale Parlor was a forever place. You could always count on it. Best mole. Best tomatillo sauce. Best hot sauce. Best Jalisco sauce. Best Colorado.
Owners sold the place many years ago and it's changed hands a couple of times.
Latest incarnation wants to make the Tamale...

this restaurant has been serving delicious Mexican food for over 50 years. It's definitely one of the best and most reasonably priced to go to. We had great guacamole - a very generous portion. Fab tamales with squash and my friend loved the meatballs. I'm sure everything on this menu is good to eat and I can wait to go...

This place is unassuming, on the fringes of the Mission District in a very interesting neighborhood. The tamales are thick and drowned in a delicious sauce. Atmosphere is neat, lots of days gone by photos on the wall. Definitely worth your time. Don't forget to stop at St. Francis malt shop next door for dessert.

The Profile Page for this restaurant is brought to you by the DiningGuide.com service. Roosevelt Tamale Parlor is located in San Francisco.

Deep in the heart of the Mission, you`ll find Roosevelt`s, the mecca for tamale lovers. Dating back to 1922, it is a San Francisco tradition. Oilcloths, dark wood-paneled walls, and a huge electric clock lend a certain south-of-the-border feel. Specialties include the guacamole, the eponymous tamales, and the excellent chile rellenos. If you go to Roosevelt Tamale Parlor, you`ll find a place...

The Extras

The staff is very willing to cater your event and will even deliver all over the city for order for more than 10 people.

What to Drink

A glass of homemade sangria is the pefect accompaniment to the mole sauce and tamale gravy that covers many of the dishes.
