Help us make it rightTim and Liza Goodell have long sought the perfect location for their second Red Pearl Kitchen, and they found it in the heart of the Historic Gas Lamp District of San Diego. Their original Red Pearl Kitchen has been a mainstay of the Huntington Beach dining scene for the past five years and like the Orange County location, the new San Diego restaurant combines authentic Chinese/East Asian...
The Red Pearl Kitchen, where exotic meets cosmopolitan and authentic meets avant-garde, is a Contemporary Asian restaurant/bar/lounge, which blends 1940's Shanghai glamour with the upscale, urban, fine-dining sensibility of the Domaine Restaurant Group.
Vivid red Venetian plaster walls, a loungey vibe, and a widely varied menu of pan-Asian fare make Red Pearl Kitchen stand out among San Diego's other, more generic, Asian restaurants. Here, diners embark on a culinary journey with dishes like pineapple and Kobe beef satay, crab spring rolls, spicy meatballs, and steamed pork buns, all of which are designed for sharing. Pair them with sake and...
From the street, you step down into the deep red, modern luxury of the Red Pearl Kitchen. The atmosphere is sultry, all deep jewel tones and shiny black. The Asian-inspired menu traverses the East, combining dim sum, skewers, hot pots,…
Specializing in dim sum dishes with a contemporary, Pan-Asian flair, this sexy Gaslamp Quarter restaurant is decorated in hues of deep red and features stone and tile accents, a cool pebbled floor, some nice deep booths, and two private dining areas. At Red Pearl, you may see a kungfu flick on one of the flatscreens over the bar while dining on your strawberry-cinnamon short ribs, duck lettuce...
The Scene
Wander down the curved pathway from the door to the bar and dining room to enter one of downtown's most buzzing scenes. Red walls, black furnishings, lanterns and basket weave...
A group of 5 adults and 2 children went to Red Pearl Kitchen on New Year's Eve for dinner. The restaurant is in the Gaslamp District and it offers a contemporary decor. We ordered several appetizers and main courses and sampled all of them. Every dish was well prepared, well presented and delicious. The service was excellent, attentive and pleasant....
We like this restaurant, but since it is in the Gaslamp District, we hate the parking so we don't go as often as we might. The sign outside isn't spectacular and I have always thought that a better sign would attract more patrons. Last night we finally went after we had heard that the menu had changed. Sad to see...
My wife and I had dinner at the Red Pearl Kitchen, an Asian restaurant, on November 19, 2012. We had a reservation. We showed up on time and were promptly seated. The restaurant is nicely decorated and very cozy. The menu consists of appetizers and entrees, both of which are served family style. My favorite appetizer is the chicken wings...
I called the restaurant to make a reservation for dinner with a couple of my coworkers who were in San Diego. I made the reservation without any issue. We showed up on time only to be told we needed to finish our meals within an hour and 15 minutes. That did not set the appropriate tone for us. We had...
I ordered the pistachio crusted Ahi Tuna with plum sauce which was excellent. Very friendly people and atmosphere.

This place is a tourist favorite. If anyone thought that the last opium den shut its doors in the 1920s, think again. Well...they don't serve opium of course, but that's not what the decor would have you believe. They serve a delicious pan-American cuisine which borrows flavors from only the tastiest of offerings.
The Extras: Don't be confused by the sign and the window exposing the kitchen on Fourth Avenue. It's just a sneak peak. The main entrance is around the corner on J Street.
Know Before You Go: This is the second RPK installment. The much-smaller but still swanky original is in Hunington Beach.
Look Good: There is no dress code, but it's a well-dressed crowd.
Know Before You Go: If your group is larger than eight people, you will be offered a special chefs pre-fox menu at either $30 or $45 per person.
What to Drink: Creative sake and vodka cocktails are divine and rotate on and off the drink menu with the seasons.
