Out front, a crowd mills up and down College Avenue, lobster-shaped pager in hand. Once the crustacean begins to pulse and blink, in comes the next round of diners. A wall of...
Pearl only uses the freshest, best quality seafood, about half
of which is served raw. The halibut, salmon and tuna 3 seafood
tartare was wonderful - bright and fresh. The "hawaiian
poke" (pronounced poki) was spicy but had a fine balance
of soy, sesame oil and hot sauce. The ceviche was fabulous.
Salmon was deftly flavored.
The only miss of the night was beef and shiitake...
The two us went about 8 on a Friday night and got a table right away. The staff were wonderful; very friendly, prompt and helpful with selections. The tuna poke was out-of-this-world and the raw oysters were sublime. I ordered the seared sea scallops and wasn't surprised when they melted in my mouth. They came with some kind of polenta sauce around the plate that balanced the dish. My guest had the iron steak which he thought was grilled to perfection. I wasn't unimpressed by the portions because I can enjoy and savor every bite more if I know there's just enough to satisfy my...
Pearl is a jewel in Rockridge, but you have to know how to play it. It's tiny, and most of the tables are fixed to the wall/floor, so don't expect to be comfortably accommodated with a large party (I don't recommend showing up with more than 4 people). Went there on a rainy Saturday evening so the wait was not long at all (maybe 5 minutes at the bar?). The bartenders there pour some pretty stiff drinks and the vibe of the place makes time pass pretty quickly.
The restaurant itself is not large and the tables themselves are not too big. Considering this is a small plates establishment, they serve their food on larger platters which becomes an...
definitely worth a trip from the city -- Ahi Poke, Tartar Trio, actually everything we shared on 2 visits was just superb. Staff is knowledgeable and attentive without being intrusive -- quite impressive.

Pearl Oyster Bar & Restaurant (CLOSED) is a Seafood, Tapas, and Japanese restaurant where most Menuism users came for a romantic date, paid between $25 and $50, and tipped more than 18%.
Though diminuitive in size, this raw bar and seafood restaurant is a favorite dining destination, thanks to consistently fresh offerings and tempting Asian-tinged small plates.
The wine list boasts a sizable selection of sakes to pair with the fish-heavy menu.
