Help us make it rightIn this era of information overload, visual stimulation has reached an all time pinnacle. But imagine, just for an hour or two that you cannot see, that you are abandoning vision in exchange for a new, more stimulating dining experience - this is "Dining in the Dark".
"This is not just a simple game that plays on the sensual nature of food, but a trip into inky darkness."Cindy Dorn - L.A. Times...
A novelty German dining concept brought to select U.S. cities (upshots include anonymity for celebs), this pitch-black adventure is less about cuisine and more about touch-and-taste sensory overload: if anything the experience makes for a great story. Prix-fixe menus are preselected (salads and other appetizers, chicken, fish or vegetarian mains), and guests are carefully led to their tables...
Following the European trend of dining in the dark, the Opaque experience enhances all the senses at the W Hotel every weekend.

This iteration of Opaque was at the U.S. Grant Hotel. On the one hand, Dining in the Dark really is a fun and unique experience. The room is truly pitch black, can't see, darker than the dark...
I have to say this was the most memorable restaurant experience I have ever had! First off, yes, it is completely dark, you cannot see your hand in front of your face. You have to be led in by your server (who is legally blind by the way) at first I was very nervous, but after being in the dark room for a few minutes you adjust and it just becomes a really neat experience. It is a fantastic date place (although I wouldn't recommend as a first date) or place to go try with a few friends. Definitely would go back!
Pros
+ completely different than anything I've ever tried
Cons
- cost
