OBAO, Michael Huynh's Michelin-recommended modern take on Thai cuisine, opened in 2009 and introduced “Modern Thai” to New York City. OBAO blends traditional Thai cuisine with influences from neighboring Vietnamese cuisine to create a unique New Asian palate, bringing you combinations of various Thai and Vietnamese comfort foods with a twist.

Michael Bao Huynh's Vietnamese-ish budget empire extends. East Midtown colony ladles frothy noodles, meaty sugarcane skewers. Pan-Asian mash-ups like wok-flipped pad see iew punched up with green mango kimchi, curry puff jammed with duck liver and confit. Make it a double oxtail pho lunch. Speedy open kitchen because no human should be made to wait for sweet and spicy pork belly on a stick....

Citysearch Editorial Review

Chef Michael Huynh’s (BarBao, Baoguette) sleek pan-Asian eatery in midtown east draws a subdued crowd of suits and locals with the allure of pork belly skewers and toothsome noodle soups. The...

Tasty food, nice ambiance, great prices. Would go back. The photo is good and seemingly never ending. Add the beef balls for an extra $2. Would go back.

I think this place gets higher than necessary reviews. Not sure why - I think someone famous started it or something. The food is nothing exceptional - the servings are usually extremely small and there are items on the menu that are more weird than tasty. Basic hole-in-the-wall chinese has better flavor than most of the things on their menu and at a much better price. Overall I consider this...

Worst customer service. They didn't even get my order even though I got a confirmation email. Ended up wasting 20 minutes there while waiting for them to make it. Everyone around me just sat there on their phones and I had to ask what happened only to be told oh we never got your order but I'm having them make it now. Fortunately seamless customer service was a lot better in regards to this but...

The food is good but every single time I have ordered from here it takes close to 2 hours to deliver. So, don't order from here if you're really hungry.

This "busy" East Midtown Asian noodle-and-barbecue joint – a member of Michael Huynh's burgeoning empire – puts forth an "affordable" menu packing "exciting flavor combinations" ranging from Vietnamese to Filipino to Malaysian; an "efficient" crew oversees the "fun", "loud" space, which is divided between a more casual front room featuring an open kitchen and a lower-lit, communal...
