Help us make it right(Sundubu jjigae - tofu soup on the menu) is a classic Korean dish that uses tofu's subtle flavor in a savory stew in combination with many different ingredients from kimchi to seafood. \n \n (Bibimbap) is served as a bowl of warm rice and namul (sauteed and seasoned vegetables) with an extra topping of your choice (pork, beef, vegetables, tofu, ect..) and gochujang (chili pepper paste). Can...
Healthy Korean spot opens in former bathhouse. Super-simple dining room, brick and plaster on the walls, pop music soundtrack. Owner Steve Kim takes pride in his open kitchen. Plenty of tofu options: classic bibimbop, soondubu stew, monkey balls (relax, just stuffed mushrooms with veggies and tofu). Kogi barbeque and kimchi pancakes go-tos for non-tofu eaters. Lunch is cheaper, quieter.
Korean tofu stew is Steven Kim’s specialty here, though dumplings, bibimbop and Korean classics like japchae noodles are also served. For now the tofu comes from an outside source, but Mr. Kim said he had ordered the equipment for making tofu. Another signature is the use of hot stones to serve some of the dishes, including a type of bibimbop called dolpan. — Florence Fabricant
Pretty disappointing. The beef ribs tasted funny as if the beef was a little past its prime. The kimchi soondubu wasn't great either. Despite having a cm thick oil slick sitting on top, it was bland. Next time, I need to stop being lazy…
I'm not big on asian food, but this place made me absolutely love it! I really love the bim bim bop rice - it's so good! It just feels like a bowl of health when you're eating it. The people there are really nice and really friendly too. I've been there several times and have always had a pleasant experience.
Ever since being exposed to bibimbap in Korea, I've savored this dish. Unfortunately, the NY Tofu House fell short. Location on eclectic St. Marks Street is great. Service was average. Facilities were average. Food was not even average. It was eatable, but not enjoyable. There are plenty of other Korean restaurants in the area.
Not impressed. Worst Korean food I had in the city. I came here with a friend cause we couldn't find Han Joo (a korean place) nearby. This place is clean...
My visit to NY Tofu House was very random. On the way home from work, the gf and I decided to stop by St. Marks and grab something to eat. While wandering...
NY Tofu House offers an array of healthy and traditional Korean dishes with a modern touch.
Bringing healthier options to the St. Marks scene is this narrow Korean "devoted to" the namesake specialty – tofu made in-house daily by hand-grinding soybeans the traditional way – showcased in the "delicious" signature sundubu jjigae ("spicy" stew), and joined on the menu by dumplings, barbecue and other favorites; a simple but "inviting" interior with an open kitchen keeps the focus on the...
There are many types of houses that call for the ocassional visit: haunted houses, the House of Blues, gingerbread houses, flophouses, so on. But rarely bean curd houses. This changes with NY Tofu House, a Korean restaurant making fresh tofu to sub in for your usual post-Yoga To The People Asian fix. Tofu anchors the menu with dishes like monkey ball (stuffed mushrooms with tofu and...
